Perfelti,
Is the trick relatively easy to do for a hobbyist who likes doing tricks for family and friends or is too hard for that? I love coin through soda can if that means anything. Thanks for any advice.

Hey, I've read about 6-8 pages and I dont think that these questions has been askied yet, but I have a few of my own.

Does Passin thru have to use a glass bottle?
Does the lid have to be on?
Does the coin have to be able to fit through the bottle neck?
So say, will Passin Thru work with a 50p and a J20 bottle?

Thanks
K

Yeah, they have, essentially, already been asked. To recap, though:
Your first question: 'No, but the effect is better if you use a glass bottle because the coin makes a noise.'
Your second question: 'I can think, pretty easily, of a handling that would work with no lid on. But I wouldn't do it. You know, "Coin into non-sealed bottle" - it's like going out of your way to make it appear less impressive.'
Your third question: 'Someone replied to this with, basically, "Assume you need to do it with the bottle/coin shown in the demo, or something that's clearly equivalent," which I think is the best answer. For the UK specifically, though, take a quick glance at my post on Page 9 of this thread.

Thanks for the reply.

I asked about the glass bottles, 'cause you see I'm still in school, and at school we dont have glass bottles, and it would be suspicious if I just brought a glass bottle to school. [Actually my school took away every vending machine..."Going Healthy"]

But I think, I'll think about it for now. I probably will in the end, seeing as everyones saying its such a good effect and its worth it for the secret alone. I was looking for a better coin in bottle than the original method or Abyss.

Have you personally tried it with a plastic bottle?

Thanks again,
K

I don't know the method with Abyss, so I can't comment. Well, except to say that, from seeing the demo, I have a theory that I'd reckon is 98% likely to be correct and, if it is, then, interestingly, what makes a good bottle for Abyss stops it being a useable bottle for Passing Thru. As an aside, for your standard plastic coke bottle, Peter Eggink's Impromptu Coin Thru Bottle (which is a bonus effect on his Stranger Like Me DVD) is practical and nicely thought out, I feel.

Anyway, no, I haven't personally tried Passing Thru with a plastic bottle. Partly for the reason I mentioned above, but also because a thing about every plastic bottle I've come across (only coincidentally related to their being made of plastic) means you couldn't do it. You certainly couldn't do it with a normal coke bottle. The design of it lacks a vital thing.

Just downloaded at home the instructional video I purchased through Kevin's site.

The trick is great imo, the things you need for the gimmick can be found practically everywhere.

I will start practising asap (and I'm certain that with some hours practice (depends on your skill) even AHs like me can perform this quite good) !
I believe that it will provide some great entertainment (and for around 13 euros it was quite a good buy).

Furthermore I have to mention Kevin's great support. I started downloading the file at work. The file is DRM .wmv (that means you can only view it with a given username/password at the computer you download it), and I thought it would be better if I had it at home. I sent an email and within 20 minutes I had an answer and provided me the help I needed to re-download it at home and use it there !

i baught this trick from a local magic shop for 40 dollars canadian. in my eyes it was not worth it at all. the video is the $#$#yest quality, it is honestly on his couch. the gimick is so simple your gonna kick yourself you paid that much money for it. definatly not impromtu. requirs quite a bit of practise. the impromtu issue definatly isnt an"issue" the cleanup is amazing because all the eyes are on the bottle.

i give it a 5/10 not my trick but it might be ur kind

I was disappointed in the amount of setup for this trick. Not good for my personal taste of "impromptu" magic personally.

Video was very poor as well.

After having read all 10 pages of posts on this thread I just bought Passing Through, this is what I think of it:

Value: 10/10 - I watched the whole video and I am impressed with what I got. While the gimmick is very easy to make and the idea is elegantly simple, I can honestly say that I've spent LOTS MORE money on stuff that I'll either never use, or that I'll use so seldom as to make it genuinely not worth the expense, nor the effort to learn/perfect. NOT SO with this effect. I can and will easily add this to my repertoire. I WILL get my money back tenfold in TIPS and GIGS. I can carry this around anytime, anywhere and it takes up almost no space at all. If you routinely carry playing cards, coins, etc. you should carry this one, too.

Slights: 10/10 - The slights involved are EXTREMELY EASY for anyone that has ever done any variation of the old "quarter behing the ear" trick. Without giving anything away, if you are proficient with basic coin concepts such as Palming, French Drop, etc. you are over-qualified.

Set-Up: 10/10 - If you are a Novice, setup can be done very discretely ahead of time and the trick is none the less impressive. If you are a seasoned Professional, setup can literally be done right in front of the spectator and they'll never know it, making it a genuine miracle.

Impact: 10/10 - Well guys, I have been performing Magic since I was 4 years old (34 years, but who's counting?), and I have found that the best reactions I get FROM LAYMEN are usually for VERY simple, yet VERY impressive effects. By impressive, I mean tricks that appear to be impossible miracles and that happen "right here, right now", with ordinary objects that seem to be lying around. I call 'em my "quick and dirty" go-to's. Linking Rubber Bands, Signed Coin in Nested Boxes, Torn/Restored Napkin, etc. These may not seem very "sexy" to the savvy Professional Magician, but when performed with confidence, skill and artistry these tricks are true miracles to the uninitiated. Often these simple "pocket tricks" are the things that get us remembered and BOOKED!

Believe it or not, this is NOT a paid commercial. If you want to know more about me, PM me and I'll send you a link to my portfolio. I do not yet know the rules regarding links on the message threads.

Hope this helps you make an informed decision!

trick is good, and you can create some great reactions but it is way over priced.

poor video quality. you get more form other dvd's where you pay the same price.
