Would it make sense to have a place for non-restricted essays? - after all, some of the stuff on the non restricted forums is of interest and value to archive.

I'm thinking stuff like articles about presentation 'n' stuff.

The interesting posts are usually copied to archive after a while anyway. Not too sure about other 'essays' - we might be selective and move the better ones but at the moment the idea is just to see how these lengthy posts go and whether it's something manageable or not. More asap!

Is it possible for non-resrtricted area magicians to able to read but not post/reply to te essays because I'd quite like to read some.

I don't know what the technicalities of that would be

I have wrote many articles regarding this topic. During my studies i have done many dissertations.

Note from Mods: Thank you Jimmy but as well as writing you need to read. Specifically the bit in the rules about not advertising - link deleted.

Since this thread was revived I'd like to breathe some new life into it but with a slight shift on perspective; the creation of a TM Study Thread, so to speak -- a Library.

The idea would be take the more solid materials that have been contributed by several members here that cover the different facets of the craft. So maybe this "library" has sub-sections on Coins, Card Work, Character Development, Marketing, etc.

It's NOT a section where people can reply directly... I'm not certain how to answer that issue, my thought being to leave the main articles "clean" and set as Stickies all by themselves. But we would need a way for those that read these things, to respond and thus, offer questions if need be.

I believe a Poll styled setting such as you find in the MySpace Blogs via which kudos can be awarded, will give each feature a way of gaining endorsement by the readers. This would satisfy their need to give a thumbs up (or down) while keeping the main article "clean" and clutter free.

Why the concern over replies?

Just look at my "Becoming a Mentalist" essay and how many replies you would have to wade through, just to find a possibly response in which I answer questions. I've seen this in other essays as well. If we could have a Q&A section that's associated with each essay would create more of a focus and ease in finding answers.

This would be a very unique addition to TM that would set it far apart from the majority of forums out there; a valuable asset for us all!

Bear with us on this, not sure how we can have a place where posts are OK but replies aren't - unless it's like the Essays section requireing the Essay thread to be locked and a reply thread to be opened.

That's exactly it, we just create an A & B thread. So something such as "What You Need to Know About Escapology" would give you the essay and with it links to the reply thread, which don't even need to be visible to visitors of that area but only to those focused on that one issue.

I'm certain there's an existing means by which to do this.

Can I second this. I was just reading the thread thinking what a great idea, I wonder why it was never implemented then realised it's in the restricted section so could not be accessed anyway.
