Review
Ok, I've had this for a while actually, did a wee search (and found no wee anywhere) nor a review for this dvd, so here is one. Here's the blurb…

Perfect Timing: Boris predicts a freely selected time down to the minute!
Mona Lisa: Boris demonstrates the existence of both an "Alpha" and "Beta" mind!
Lottery: Boris predicts five freely chosen cards and their order!
A Very Good Year: The date on a borrowed coin matches the date on Boris' coin!
Acquaintances: Boris' favorite "warm-up" routine with playing cards!
Distant Relations: Boris shares his profound understanding of Siamese Twins.
Impulse Control: Boris displays his ability to control a spectator choice!
Telling Tales: Boris demonstrates a "tell" and (the seldom seen) "reverse tell!"
Projection: Boris engages a spectator's "projective imagination!"
Echo: Boris creates a "mental echo" between himself and a spectator!
Undeclared Income: Boris divines the total of a handful of borrowed change!
Color Blind: A spectator finds her way to her own favorite color!
Unconscious Knowledge: Boris proves a spectator knows more than she knows!
True Believer: A "true believer" selects the one key that unlocks a lock!
Facsimile: Boris "senses" every detail of a borrowed business card!
Speechless: Boris predicts virtually any object the spectator thinks of!
Running Time: 144 minutes. (This DVD contains strong language)

OK, I personally would say this dvd is a mixture of mental magic and mentalism…even so, there's a lot of it for your money. Clearly explained, and plenty of opportunity to change things round to suit your character too…

Now, the problem I have with Mr. Sankey is that I just don't find him funny. Never seen his stand-up though, so let's just leave it there. But I find him even less funny in a Kevin Keegan wig and a fairly bad east-european accent. So, it initially put me off the whole thing. My advice if you feel the same is this - just try your best to ignore it and get to the magic. It is very, very good. Why? Well, the effects range from kinda quick-fire mental magic, to some that you could elongate with the right presentation and create something very powerful.

For your twenty quid you get the usual Sankey-value. Presentation tips, sleights explained clearly, cover and so on, I cant really fault him at all in those respects. And he obviously cares about his craft. Two hours twenty minutes of magical effects for twenty quid. You can't go wrong…

And, he shows you how to construct a very useful little envelope that has untold uses (if you didn’t know how to already)…

Overall
You'll need a few bits n bobs, a sharpie/marker, envelopes, colour cards, scissors and stuff…so probably another fiver on top if you don’t have these laying about…a spare deck of cards probably too…but apart from that, you've probably got a good little 20 minute show just from this one dvd, probably longer in fact… oh look, just buy the damn thing…

I've been meaning to get this for a while mainly on the strength of Lottery, which I know how to do and always gets good responses. I find Jay a little annoying sometimes too, some of his humour hits the spot and some of it is miles off but I did have a good chuckle at the trailer. Cheers for reviewing it anyway, makes a difference from the 'reviews' on penguin!

I have watched this and am glad I never bought it!!

Yes its full of stuff, but nothing that I thought worthy of making or making the effort to perform.

No further comment!

I find the absolute contrary to be true. The DVD is packed with useful ideas and methods which could easily form a whole act by themselves.

Nice review, btw.

Lottery gets some amazing reactions! my girlfriend's personal favorite trick. She has seen me perform it countless times, always asks me to show people and still cannot fathom how it is done.

Thanks for the review. I was put off of this because of the silly outfit etc and thought it was more aimed at kids, but I like the Sankey stuff I have, in the main very usable effects, so from the sound of the material on here it sounds like a worthwhile addition.

basically, ignore the very poor impression and just get stuck in..this and revolutionary card magic are his best two dvds..

you can just build and build from the material in this material..

let me put it in context for those of you on the fence - twenty quid for an ellusionist one trick dvd (plus eyeliner), or pretty much a half hour (or more) act (plus dodgy wig and accent) for the same moolah...

I like Sankey although his products are a mixed bag, and I too find him a bit "middle aged guy being ker-azy" for my liking, although sometimes he'll reign things in a bit and make a joke that's actually quite dark and amusing.

This DVD is actually one of my faves of his; very useable stuff, and some great down to earth mental magic; many of the techniques are highly transferable. I have designed several cool effects from the principle behind "the one with the clock faces", and off the top of my head "the one with billets" is also an excellent presentation. Get it.

even if what he shows you isnt quite your thing, its worth a good think over and apply it what does suit you...as with all things...

the mona lisa one is a prime example...as is lottery...you could do lottery with some lexicon cards instead to predict a word...

This was so disappointing. Normally I'm hopeless at working out how things are done but I found the majority of these items to be fairly obvious. I'm not saying this to make out I'm a genius, rather to say if someone who by their own admission is normally fooled by everything can work out what's going on, can it be that good?

Mr Toucan isn't most magic obvious when viewed with the benefit of hindsight?

I mean, once you know the secret which you have before you as well as the effects with this DVD, yes, some is obvious but don't forget thatTTs are obvious too but not if you don't know it's coming, as is much rubber band magic but how many people have you seen slayed by that?

I recently put one past a very well seasoned magician whom I admire greatly and not because it was the most elaborate knuckle cracking handling. No, the exact opposite in fact. It was a trick I first learned when I was just 5 or so years old, taught to me by my uncle who was then a magician. It was similar to the old 4 bank robbers trick where they all jump to the top, which he was expecting, but as soon as I began cutting the pack and letting him also do so he was baffled. When all the robbers came together busted by the king he had no idea. It is the most simple method imaginable (borrowed, shuffled deck incidentally), and yes obvious once you know how.

Some of this DVD does not suit me, however, there are a fair few very useful methods taught in Boris Pocus, not limiting you to just what is taught here but allowing for expansion into your own material.

Oh, and I stand by lottery by the way. I am still performing this and the missus still hasn't got a clue. If not rushed and performed smoothly, this is a complete baffler!
