Faith Section

Postby EckoZero » Jun 8th, '06, 02:04

There's seems to have been an awful lot of posts made recently about what religion etc us magicians are.

Not that it's clutter, as I find them most interesting, I just think to keep things a bit tidier, maybe a "Faith" section of he forum would be a good place to post all such Magic/Religion posts?

You wont find much better anywhere and it's nothing - a rigmarole with a few bits of paper and lots of spiel. That is Mentalism

Hmmm. I don't think there would probably be enough threads to warrant it. And it has the potential to be problematic since people feel very strongly about faith.

How about something very similar to that, ethics and morals in magic. This can include faith discussions, and the usual 'moral' debates that get brought up.

I think that may be opening up a can of unwanted worms. Individual threads are ok, but unless you are very careful tension builds up very quickly.

I would say we were better off discussing the subject when it arises but trying not to encourage it otherwise!

I agree in referrence to religion and faith. But ethics in magic seems to come up a lot.

Yeah i have to agree. I don't think this is any place to discuss religion or faith. Same as i don't think politics should be discussed here either. If we had a Faith section then maybe a cookery section too since we all eat  seriously tho there are so many other places on the web to discuss religion i would be very distressed if this became one of them

But they way i cook or what political party i support isnt likely to influence my performance of magic in the way my ethics do :)

Actually I think it could prove a serious boon for the board, if there were two new sections; Christian oriented and Alternate Faith oriented. I suggest the division so as to circumvent the onslaught of debate and theological attacks which are not needed.

Aside from one or two Christian Magician based forums that I'm aware of the only other magic forum that has a Religious Magic section that I know of is the Cafe... granted, tubby & company are after certain demographic counts so as to suck their advertisers dry, but the fact remains that it is a rather busy section on that forum so it might just be a good hook to toss into the water, if you get my drift.

Do we really need to get so heavy. This is a fun place and its a fun art, so why get bogged down in religion - which can be (and has been through history) a cause of friction.

I say no, keep it fun.

I agree with the 'fun' idea but i think religion isnt always a drag. Iv modified effects to present an uplifting message for people and there are many christian faith magic effects out there, although i havnt used any.

Not that my post count throws a lot of weight around on this forum, but I must say that it displeases me greatly when the # of posts on matter un-related to the nature of the forum exceeds the relevant posts. How about discussing MAGIC only on "TalkMagic" and other topics on different forums? I once found a great guitar forum that in the span of a few months went from "normal" to thousands of posts per day of the most ridiculous, non-sensical garbage one could imagine. People started discussing video games, RELIGION, dating/relationships, posting videos of themselves doing anything BUT playing the guitar, etc... and every time you log in there are 10 pages of unread posts. Needless to say I no longer visit that forum. I wouldn't want this place to go down the same path.... but that's just me! If any member here doesn't like the forum anymore, they can leave (myself included).

Gotta agree on that one.

The Doves Head section is there for any non-magic stuff

Sorry, but I think this is a very bad idea, because most wars in the world have started because of religion. This area should be free from unnessecary arguments. Let's stick to magic and related matters, eh?
