Has anyone see this interview with Dynamo, as pointed to by Magic Week?

Say what you like about his skills, but the lad's not daft

i've always imagined that he's a really sound guy. and he's just marketting himself really well. i like to think he goes home and puts on some jazz or something once he's removed those nasty clothes and donned something more credible of course.

yeah the presentation with the ID is kind of poor. i do the sort of same presentation of what he does in the begining, where you have the spec shuffle the 'invisible' cards, its a good way of getting the audience involved with the magic. However the whole thing of 'just a snap the deck turn visible' is really rushing the effect. I usually have a piece of flash paper on me palmed and light that to produce the cards, far more impressive. Overal, Dynamo gets a good reaction to his perfromance so i guess its all good either way.

Yes indeed. His performance apart, what do you guys think about his way of getting finance to go full time?

I think Dynamo had the drive to make it.
He hasn't stopped trying and ultimately that's why he's where he is.

Thaumaturgy it aint, but great for the audience and great for him

You wont find much better anywhere and it's nothing - a rigmarole with a few bits of paper and lots of spiel. That is Mentalism

I know this is an old post but I decided to ressurect it to make a point. Some of you might have seen me slag Dynamo off in a fit of rage yesterday after I first saw his website, which I slightly recanted later.

Since then I've been looking him up a bit and I've come to the conclusion that I've got a lot of respect for the guy. He's got a battering for the same reason as most of the other famous tv magicians recently, in that he does tricks that we all could do (and it's fair to say that from his performance most of us could do them better in our eyes at least). However he's gone out there with a gameplan and got what he wanted. Despite the fact that I could do everything I've seen him do to the same standard (and I can say that without any arrogance on my part I'm just stating fact) I simply wouldn't have the audacity to do it on tv knowing that I'd get cut down by the magical community. He doesn't care about that he just tries to live his own dream. Good on the lad.

Very interesting interview. I haven't seen any of his magic but he certainly seems to have his head on straight and knows what he wants and is determined to achieve it.

In fact I think ill go look for his website and look at some of those movie clips.l

I have a lot of respect for dynamo. Having grown up on a bradford council estate myself, its good to see him doing well in his magic. I have but one criticism of him, (and yes i know you could probably pick flaws in some of his tricks, but you could in anyones, if you looked hard enough!). I think from what i have seen, he seems to rely on the magic too much..(bear with me here), i think his overall performance is quite poor, (compared to the likes of zenon, who he undoubtedly would like to succeed) He barely makes jokes. what does everyone else think? He has done well to get on Channel 4, but i sense he needs a bit more to make a sustainable living through TV magic.

Anyone wish to comment.

Dynamo is a good example that magic can stand on its own but yes, I agree with you, I would much rather watch someone like Jay Sankey over Dynamo.

Ironically, when you think about it his act is a grungy-looking kid doing isolated tricks for people. Not my cup of tea, obviously, but perhaps the recognition factor is what drives it all forward for him. "Hey, Dynamo, show us a trick" and he just does. Being a showcase for tricks seems to be taking him quite far, but how far? A lot of what gets televised is him operating tricks as per the box. He's clearly skilled, so I think he could develop a more rounded, confident persona and weave his bits into longer sequences, but that's just me.
