Hi there -

Is this trick repeatable? I'm worried about table hopping and people on the previous tables seeing the outcome.

(It reminds me of Banachek's This 'n' That routine and therefore wondered how repeatable it was.)

Thanks,

:D

The spec's chioice can, and will, be different each time you do it but you will always 'win'. As for table hopping, I'd say Diceman would be a rather lengthy effect to do at one table after another - it depends on how much time you take to build up the tension over the end result.

Could Diceman be done with larger cards?

Postby Rocketeer » Jun 12th, '06, 01:38

I intend to buy Diceman but for the presentation I have in mind I'll be making my own cards. I've been told this should not be a problem once I know the secret.

One thing I'm not sure of however, is how big can I can make those cards? Do they need to be more or less playing card sized? I looked at a performance video and it looked like Diceman might require that they be that size. It wouldn't be a problem but I'd like to know before I buy it.

Thanks.

If you are making your own set for your own presntation then make it any size you want. It doesn't matter,

If you want to find the specifics of Andy's effect though so that you can duplicate it then please just buy it.

Am I right in thinking the cards that come with it have "Diceman" emblazoned on the backs?
If so, I hate that! It lessons impact, cries out "I bought this, so can you" and is just begging for the specs to hit Google the next day.

No, the front of each card shows a number from 1 to 6 and also the face of a die showing the equivalent number of spots; the back of the cards show the words, one of which is revealed at the end and which was chosen by the spec's random roll of the die. The only bit which has 'Diceman' on it is the small metal card case which is used to store and carry the cards. This can easily be removed, covered over, or you could use a normal business card case.

Oh great. There goes my last CUPS barrier.

:)

EDIT: First review I heard of this was on the (excellent) Go Magic Go podcast. I'm sure the logo on the cards was a big beef with the reviewer, so mebbe it's different in the States?

EDIT2!: Aha, yes - it's on the bottom right hand corner...

Sorry  - but I'm sure you won't regret buying it! The Review at the start of this thread was mine and I'm still very happy with Diceman after over 3 years.

Just to highlight something I posted a while back:
the basic working is such that you pass the die and therefore all responsibility over to a volunteer. Then you tell them very scarily (think Kray Twins) that whatever is in the back of the freely chosen card is what you will do to them. I found it more 'emotional' to pick on a guy (Eric) who is there with his lady friend (Mary) and you tell Eric that whatever is on the card is what you will do......to.......Mary. It's amazing how it turns up the pressure - Mary will be giving Eric some serious GBH of the ear and you can almost touch the tension.

Also - the instructions tell you to keep the cards in order, one down to six. Ignore that bit of advice and keep them in a random order. There's a point where you have to search through to find the spec's freely selected card and I find using a random order helps with the jiggery pokery required!

Thanks for the info bananafish. I'll definitely buy it. I wasn't pumping for the method. I just wanted to make sure I could do it with the variation I have in mind.

I really don't care for the graphics on the product and I thought up a look that would be more in line with my stage persona.

It's a nice piece and plays very fair. The method could easily be incorported into your own presentation I am sure.

Well, I've got this now - it's exactly what I expected and plays great.
Like it.

But Nyman's gone down in my expectations for putting the name of the piece on the cards. I'm surprised he didn't put his website address or an order hotline on there too.

At least I can make my own set with a clear conscience now.

Got this last week & performed it for the 1st time (publicly) today at a dinner party.

Got fantastic reactions! Was only able to do this 3 times as not that many peeps their but so simple to do & really allows one to get on with chattering away.

I got this a few days ago and can only second (or third or fourth...) what others have been saying. A great effect and very simple to perform allowing most of the grey matter to focus on performance.

Gotta also say though, IMHO really horrible props! Seriously naff and tacky! Fortunately the method's very translatable into creating your own.

I thought I'd share my method to get around the minor "odd" number difficulty. Rather than use actual dice I simply get the chosen spec to roll a dice for me in their mind. If they come up with that particular number simply ask them to roll it again to make sure that I'm not using "loaded dice". Gets a laugh and in itself should steer them away from it next "throw". If they do happen to come up with that same number a second time then the dice obviously are loaded, so try a new (mental) dice!

Works for me anyway. :D

I'm upset to hear about the quality of the props. I got my Diceman a long, long while back, and the props were gorgeous. I'd brand them as 'gameshow-ish', but that kind of fits with the presentation.
