“Challenge Card under drink

The Card Under Drink is one of the most popular effects in bar magic, and quite possibly, magic's most stunning repeat card to impossible location effect. Learn the real world details of this awesome effect from an artist who pays the bills by KILLING audiences with it on a nightly basis!
Along the way, you'll pick up tips and hints on timing, audience management, attention direction, scripting, acting and more. This isn't just a card routine, this is a complete course on adding hard-core impact to your close up magic.
In this download you'll find detailed analysis of nine Card Under Drink phases that take you outside the box, and hit your spectators between the eyes. You'll find new and easy ways of performing the effect, and even some that don't require you to load the card! You'll feel like you just stole Michael Paul's personal notebook when you discover special highlighted areas of the manuscript, and various notes and comments that have been added over several re-writes. Every detail is covered, from what kind of glass works best (and where to put it) to use of gimmicks, and even thoughts on doing the routine when you don't have a glass or drink available. This is the real work on an amazing, commercial, impromptu routine.
Visual learners will take special note of the "details" video included with each download! Several moves and sequences are shown from the angle of an overhead camera, so you get the best view to learn the moves from the manuscript.
The featured phase is the Challenge Card Under Drink:
You tell the spectators exactly what you are going to do (you even demonstrate for them how you'll be putting the card under the drink!!!). You tell them exactly when you are going to do it. And then you tell them that they won't see a thing... then you do it... and they see nothing!
Get ready to add impact to your close up magic. Get ready to take your routines to the next level. Get ready for Challenge Card Under Drink.

For a very limited time- $10 (first 50 copies)”

The Review

Well then folks this is the one that so many of you have been waiting for, the Challenge Card Under Drink. And that is understandable because there is something quite beautiful in the premise. To tell your audience what you are going to do, to make it absolutely clear to them and to spell it out, and then to do it anyway - and do it unnoticed, despite all of your statements about what you are going to do - now that is impossible, and what’s more it flies in the face of several rules of magic: Don’t ever tell an audience what you are going to do as they will then be looking out for it and watching your every move and Never repeat an effect.

Put simply, you can imagine how amazed your spectators would be when you told them what you were going to do and still they did not notice it.

Now, there are nine phases included here. Mix and match, take what you think you can make work and put it together in to a strong routine. Mike gives you tips on where to place some of the phases within a routine, which are all logical and make-sense. Well thought out.

Now obviously it is the Challenge CUD that everyone is clamouring for, so I will talk a little about that then. No, it is not too hard, not very difficult at all, but if you are quite new to magic it’s probably not such a great idea if this is one of your first purchases. It will be too hard for you then. But anyone who has performed quite a fair bit before should, with a little practise, have no difficulties with this whatsoever. The psychology behind it is inspiring too, every little bit of handling has been thought-out and rationalised and goes some way to making the whole effect work. The performance time for this is short two, roughly around two minutes or so, although as Mike says in the manuscript you can make it last as long or as short as you want.

What’s more Mike even goes in to the little details, such as the positioning of the glass and what kinds of glass to use. The writing is concise yet detailed and, a few little grammatical niggles aside, very neat and tidy indeed. It is also an interesting read - even the credits page too.

This is then followed up with a suggested follow-up variant of the original, using a similar method but another selection. There are also some pieces with different themes, such as a Monte theme, but with a similar effect, and a few other nice variants on the original, which I shan’t say too much about here suffice to say that they are good. One or two are a take on some old ideas, but all is properly credited.

In short, the two main phases, the Challenge CUD, are worth the price of this alone. There were a few more details it would have been nice to know, but please do not get me wrong - you will not be left scratching your head as to what to do, far from it (and if you are ever unsure Mike says that you can Emil him for help). Overall, everything is described perfectly. The extra phases and details included are kind of a bonus, and are great too. If the teasers got you fired up for the Challenge CUD, then you will love this.

Accompanying this is a demonstration for the visual learners. Detailed exposed views and methods alongside actual performances of the effect make this a valuable learning aid.

The E-Book itself runs at 27 pages and has quite a striking front cover. Clearly laid out with the different sections easily marked out and distinguished from the others, this is a subtle visual treat too. Important notes are highlighted to catch your attention and along the way are click able annotations offering you details and insights. There are a few photos which are not really necessary, but don’t detract from anything either.

Overall
If the idea appeals to you, then you will like this. A few points could have been expanded upon, but as I also said earlier the description of the effects is brilliant and you will not really be left wanting more details. Fun to read too, with some nice bonus pieces, proper (and interesting) crediting as well as a good instructional video make this an appealing package.

Recommended.

9/10.

Thanks Cardza, nice review.

That was enough to persuade me to purchase my own copy! I haven't had the time to study it too closely yet but seeing the quality of the presentation and content was enough to persuade me to do something else I've been putting off for a while which was to buy Show No Mercy. So I've now got plenty to take away on hols to study next week!

don't worry - all is good now. Performed it a couple of times - it is becoming one of my signiture pieces - most enjoyable...and I especially like performing the deck under drink effect.

All in all - a wonderful purchase - a pity i didn't get to it when it was on special offer!

very much recomended!
