Mindpower deck

If your going to use it, i find that you can't just simply have the spectator select a card and then you reveal it through a series of questions. Your going to have to have a bigger finish, just like Derren Brown did with Smoke. If you don't have an ending like that and you just try and get the name of the card then the deck doesn't really have a good effect unless its the first or second card you reveal. With all the phishing that goes on with 'is it a black card?' or what have you, it really won't get your spectator thinking much of it. To them it will just be lucky guesses and too many questions. Some of you might agree with that and some of you might not but thats just my take on it all!

In conclusion - its all about presentation!...but you knew that already!

I cannot agree totaly with you. If in fact you can predict a chosen card with 2 or 3 questions I think that is positively amazing. After 2 questions you may have it narowed to suit (13 to one odds). Many times after with Mindpower you can get it quicker than that especially on multiple predictions. Two no's gives a prediction.

Like it's said above, it all is about presentation, yet i think it may help to phrase the 'questions' as statements, which makes it seem like you seem a lot more confident in what you are about to say, and saying that, if your questions are all correct it gives a fantastic reaction. I think it's a brilliant nonetheless.

How does this compare with the radar deck? I see it advertise as a cheaper alternative to the mind power deck.

Does anyone own or have used the Paul Fox Miricle Card gimmick?

The effect is magician hands out ten cards to five specators, a total of 50 cards. They are instructed to mentally select one card and then shuffle the packet. Next, pass the cards to one person and then they are to shuffle the pack. When this is done the magician places the deck back into the deck for a moment while he has some verbal by play with the audience. He then removes the deck and says, I will read of some of the cards, wait until I stop and if I name someones card, please stand up. When one or more person stands up,you do a small bit of fishing and you name their card as you remove it from the deck. You can name all five chosen cards correctly but I intentionally miss one either suit is right but the value is one off or the value is correct and the suit is off. I want people to think I'm human and they will still be amazed that you named 4 out of 5.

I don't know if these are still being made but if not you can probably find someone that can help you come up with one.

I would rate this a 10/10

Can be altered to stop the fishing.

There's a bit of discussion about this at http://www.talkmagic.co.uk/ftopic18299.php

Sorry, I'd forgotten it was a thread in there. Basically someone had found the key card and was wondering what it was. Eventually it lead to this link http://www.trickshop.com/fox_gimmick.html but not a lot more than that!

Thanks alot for that web site. My gimmick is at least 22 years old and it would be nice to have a new one with instructions. I like the effect and have used it often.
cheers

I have just purchased this, after the recommendation of derren brown in 'Devils Picturebook' and have to say I love it :)

The deck I have is the newly developed Bike Back version, which odes need some tweaking (for my personal preferences anyways - mainly, agreeing with seige, getting rid of the joker) but after some practice I feel that this will be the effect that people remember you for, and with a certain card wallet you could use that as your final kicker (seen as smoking is banned inside bars etc) but, I personally feel that a kicker may not even be needed, as with lots of 'simple' tricks nowadays, its all about how you present a trick which sells the idea of you being able to read minds etc.

I feel its worth an 8/10 for effect practicality (needs a flat surface to be performed on really) 9.5/10 for the price (this would cost A LOT to be made yourself, and a LOT of effort has gona into the ordering of the deck and each cards markings) and an 8/10 for the quality (as far as I understand, the fact that they are now printed on Bikes means that they glide better than the original version - I never used the original, so cant really mark them based on comparison, but, like bikes, they glide very nicely and are smooth to hold etc). OVERALL, a 8.5/10 for this trick :D

Did KingJeux get an answer to this? Have I missed it?

I was kind of wondering the same thing...

I recently bought Red Rover as it seemed a cheaper alternative to Strange Travellers despite having a description of exactly the same effect. It has so far worked wonders for me. Fighting off C.U.P.S. means that cheaper alternatives are good as far as I'm concerned!

I was going to get this a while back, but decided to make my own Koran deck instead (cheaper, too). There is a superb presentation in Mind, Myth and Magick that I use, which is excellent. T. A. Waters goes into detail with the questioning technique. Genius.

Err, yeah, but no, but yeah.

It depends what you want. Is it exactly the same? No.

Is it similar in some respects? Yes.

Can you perform 'Smoke' with it (to full effect)? No.

The 'Koran Deck' is probably a better substitute, as used by Replicant. The 'Radar Deck' is more expensive and not quite the same sort of thing.
