Just as a side note, to try and keep this post somehow in line with the topic, I'm also looking forward to access but I'm happy to wait until I've proven my worth in the eyes of those in the know

which is EXACTLY the way access is given... i can assure you that a certain person "putting a word in" holds no sway with the admin team. As has been pointed out before access is given to users who show a genuine interest in magic, not just in the secrets, who contribute reviews of items/products/people/whatever, who actually give something to the Forum over a period of time as well as receiving from it.

I hope it didn't seem that I was suggesting that was the way to go. Sorry if it did. I was actually refering to something MagicDiscoman said in an earlier post.

I totally respect its an independant descision by the admin team and thats cool. Nehoo, I'm gonna stop now coz it sounds like I'm brown nosing.

Just to further add to the confusion:

1. If you are wondering how Copperfield flies, how Blaine levitates or how Paul Daniels managed to pull Debbie (only joking Paul ;)) you are barking up the wrong tree.

2. There is no fast way into the Restricted Area. Heck, even if Jay Sankey turned up here, he'd be vetted first.

3. NOBODY has the power to brown-nose or influence decisions around here. Believe me, I've tried—and I have the scars to prove it ;)

4. The whole tome of magical knowledge contained in this forum is provided as a privilege. Just because it's called a 'public' forum, does not mean that entry to the forum is a right. It's a blessing.

5. There's a criteria for every level of admission. Mostly, it's based on each individual being tolerated and accepted by the WHOLE forum community, not just the mods/admin. By this, I mean that you should not set out just to impress the upper-heirarchy. Your presence and attitude are judged in how well you benefit the COMMUNITY of TalkMagic—not just how you are able to do a triple rabbit vanish whilst locked in a box 20ft over the Thames whilst backpalming an Aardvark.

6. Be yourself. Although there's an inherent 'anonymous' position taken by everyone here, it's nice to be able to relax an be upfront. Be open, ask questions, get involved. It's nice to be here, when you settle down. Nobody expects anything from you. Give/take.

OK, I will shut up now. It's amazing what a double-shot of fresh ground coffee does to your jaded brain on a Monday morning!!!

:)

Don't talk to me about coffee at the moment. I love the stuff but this morning I managed to get ever so slightly sour milk in with my wake up cup and I'm still reeling from the effects!! Tasty!!

LOL

Yeah, summer's a bummer for keeping the old jug-o-lait fresh. And it's 'once bitten, forever smitten' with the old sour-milk-beverage taste. That stays with you for hours.

I was told recently that a percentage of fresh milk is Pus... cos we're over-milking our cows, and their teats are not built for it.

Since then, I take my coffee black.

Message to fellow Mods and Admin Crew - do you think we ought to start making a regular award? The Talkmagic Wooden Spoon Award? (And should we ask Mike, J, Max, Dave and Dave about it?)

Restricted Area Access Requirements.

Postby Sunny » Wed Aug 25, 2004 2:29 am

Surely the quality of the posts, especially reviews, should be the ONLY requirement for gaining access, and NOT some arbitrary number of posts. Are 5 exceptional and genuinely helpfull reviews not FAR more usefull than 50 mediocre posts?

Are you saying that nobody will be granted access UNLESS they have made 50 posts? If so, are you stating that someone's level of competancy as a magician / mentalist, cannot be determined before 50 posts have been made? Seems kinda illogical to this mentalist.
