Whats all this bout not bein able to distinguish one post from the last???
On my screen the posts alternate from a light shade background to a dark one, which makes it pretty simple to me!!!

i think if its small like seige's, i am cool with it. but like some ones on here, who will remain unnamed in my post, is way too big. and took a while to load when i open a new topic to read what it was about.
keep it to simple, slim, nice pic and words or phrases.

A sigature can only be about 256 characters long, so you wouldn't have anyone posting 1000 words anyway.

My screen also changes from light to dark between posts. It doesn't on some other forums, but I have never had a problem deciding when a new post had been added.

I have seen a banner on another forum,, which takes over half a page to scroll down. Unless there is an easy way to control the size, then they do need banning, as people try to out do each other.
If the Mods and Admin can work out and make some they think are reasonable sizes, maybe there could be a poll. We could either say which we think are ok, or to ban them completely.

I think signatures are ok to an extent. It is the size that bothers me though. The 'height' of most of them is far too large. Can't people just use a tinner one? Is that too much to ask? Regulaing the size should be easy enough. If a mod asks them to reduce the size and they don't then they get banned. Simple. If it's a rule and it's broken then fair enough.

Also, the retailers with sigs have been here longer than most anyway so they should be able to keep them. It should be directed more towards the new people.

Oh.. and about not distinguishing between 2 new posts.. after every post, you will see "Posted: Wed Jul 19, 2006 12:27 am Post subject:" which shows that you've moved onto a new post.. and you can also see on the left where the username changes. Using that as an excuse for having a sig is pretty poor

personally its the larger, and to be frank, pointless image sigs that I find annoying - ones like seige's and stephen magic are small, un-intrusive, and have a purpose ( a selfish one perhaps but still of use to the rest of us ). though it is gonna go on and on and on and on with new members accusing of double standards, and people abusing the system with animated adverts with no intention of using the forum itself. So maybe a total ban is called for?

My two pennies worth,

I am not a fan of pictures in the signature strip, especially when the person posting might only write 1 line of text, like " I agree LOL :) "
I think that people that are advertising their magic business is fine, as long as it is fairly small and unobtrusive. What would happen if someone made a picture that was 500x400 and loads of animation within it just for a signature?

A signature is what it is a "signature" I don't sign my name by drawing a great big picture of me! Please everyone stick to some random text!

Your Avatar is for expressing yourself in pictures, maybe we could increase the size of these as a comprise.

I think that, if the image in your sig is bigger than the post itself, you have to think about what sort of message that sends to people. Here's why:

You might admire a certain magician, but do you have to keep blasting their image at me with every post? I want to read what you have to say, not look at who you admire the most. Why not offer one of his or her pearls of wisdom in a quiet, understated way in a quick quote? It gets more respect because it shows that you've taken the time to really take in what they have to say about their art.

EDIT: For Firefox users, if you go into preferences, and select Web Features, you can tick the box for loading images only from the originating site. This means that images those hosted on external sites don't show up. Dunno about IE users, though. I'm in Linux.

A picture paints a thousand words only when you have a thousand words to say! Your sig, Perfelti says nothing about you other than you like Chris Angel - which you could sum up in four words, two of them being "I like".

Personally, I'd get rid and due to the good tip above, also limit thye amount of words that you can have in a sig too!

I like some of these sigs, especially Seiges as I think it adds colour to the forum.... But (and it is a big but) some of them are really irritating, especially ones with other peoples images in them. Also as has been rightly pointed out they take up valuable page space and make long threads twice the size.

The sigs I like best though that are just words, funny comments or succint quotes. I think it tells you something about the member, much more than a photo of a famous magician ever will... :D

avatars are for pics - not signatures

I do like the Siege one though and it offers a service to us members so that's OK in my book
