I got my eye on you!

Postby IAIN » Jul 21st, '06, 13:09

I've got my eye on you…

Price - $15, so about £8.50ish

Sleights - 1
(1=easy to do, 2=No sleights, but not so easy, 3=Some sleights used,
4=Advanced sleights used, 5=Suitable for experienced magicians only)
very minimal set up, some counting involved and story telling…it's all based on an Al Koran effect, the name of which escapes me now…

Review
You get:
2 small boxes
a little note
a real glass eye
and yer instructions obviously…

So, your grandpa Jack has left you his glass eye, an old pack of cards, a little note and two small cardboard boxes…whats so unusual about that eh?

You tell the tale (or another if you don't like this one) of your Granpa playing about and spooking you with his glass eye, and how he showed you magic tricks when you were younger. After he passed on, you found you could still communicate with Jack via his eye. You ask a spectator to take a few cards and place them in one of the boxes. You place Jack's eye on top of the cards and put the lid on it.

You then take half of the whole deck and listen for Jack to tell you what to do with the cards in your hands, and you then place some into the other box…you then show the spectator a little note that Grandpa left you and open both boxes…

you count both set of cards, they have the same amount in each. You then turn over each pack and they both have a 'one-eyed' Jack on the bottom of each selection…good work there Grandpa Jack!

Overall
I found this on my travels on this site:
http://www.stevensmagic.com/ and there's some very nice things there, all shiny and bright waiting for your hard-earned cash…

Anyway, I love this effect, plenty of story telling involved, something slightly odd involved due to the real glass eye too (which has plenty of other uses too), a good plot which lets you play it dark or light, a weird spiritual connection via your dead relative (if that’s how you'll play it) and all for less than a tenner…smart!

There's plenty of leeway to make it more personal to you too, you could include a prediction as to how many cards are there swami-fashion if that’s what floats yer boat; use an old knackered deck or maybe the ghost-deck…you could even make the eye move a little too I suppose if you wanted…

It's a good solid effect, great price, took a week to get here - I'll definitely be exploring that site again soon….

8.5 out of 10 - can't fault it...
