Wouldn't this be a good idea:

A member reaches a certain amount of posts, let's say 30.

The moderator or site admin then sends them via automatic email or otherwise a short interview (about 10-15 questions), then if they get at least 85% of them correct then they should be allowed access?

Regards,

Oliver

The current method seems to work just fine.

Unfortunately, incentives to gain access via quantity of posts would bring a wave of 'spammers' - posting useless 1-liners in the hope of getting more posts - which is already becoming an apparent problem - with posts of three words being seen from some members??!?!

Access to the restricted area is granted by our host, and is based on human decision.
A strict set of questions for the entrants would not hold water - there are so many genres, aspects and sidesteps in magic - it would be almost impossible to find a universal set of questions to do this. Even then, most of the answers are widely available on the internet.

As it is, the Restricted Access area is great. And if you're looking for answers to questions, or looking for 'magic's greatest secrets revealed' - the Restricted Area does not hold the 'Holy Grail', I'm afraid.
There's plenty there, but you definately won't find the answers you're probably looking for (how to levitate and bite through a coin!).

It's a place where magicians share ideas, where we can develop ourselves by making suggestions or hints about various techniques and effects.

It is not, however, an instruction book. Neither does it reveal secrets. In fact, a lot of the material in there would probably be incomprehendible to most beginners anyway.

There's only one way to learn magic - by studying. The only way you'll find answers is to read, watch and understand.

Be more constructive with your time - the answers you seek are here in this forum OUTSIDE the restricted area. There are no shortcuts.

Did Magicdiscoman sell you some 'medication'???

Anyway, they're exactly the type of posts I was talking about. I think we've proved by now that there are no easy ways to find secrets out (unless people blatantly PM you asking you to reveal the secrets, Twisted Evil Twisted Evil Twisted Evil ).

Oh well, Sunday's here again...
Off to mow the lawns.

Life is sometimes so mundane!

I think if they have the equipment they should make a 2 min video of them preforming some magic.

Nice and simple.

mog didn't you get that last consignement of erm err cough medicene???.

i failed the questions, but got in on my resume which atmitedley i could have fudged it.

but that and some fairly good posts swung it for me.

so just because you may not think you qualify as a purist dont be disheartened, to begin with most could'nt understand a word i was saying, some still have trouble now.
my post have gone from i agree / diagree, sometimes to make my numbers up too where i now converse fairly well spelling and grammer not withstanding.

if any of my reviews are still around then you will see that my area of expertise was combineing tricks like useing a ghost tube in a squre circle to give you a second load etc.

i would'nt know a hindu shuffle from a beaf curry, but that has'nt stopped me going comercial in about five years time i might actualy turn a profit.

I think regular and productive contribution, sensible, mature responses and an indication of a broad base of knowledge of things magical will and should remain the deciding criteria on a individual by individual basis.

So there all you poopie pants!!!!

Cool Cool Cool
just so long as we don't have to prove we a remotely sane.
if your posts are interesting then you'll be noticed you dont think they let me in because of penchant for lapseing into hysteria do you.

yes they did.
no they didn't.
i'll see to you later.

you dont have to be mad to work with kids but it helps, boy does it help.

anyway write a review of your favourate trick, suggest how this trick would go down with a particular type of audience, dont give the secret away very bad idea but think about angles or time for resets etc.

feel free to jump into any post that takes your fancy even if it appears to be between two people, i do all the time.

have something constructive to say if you disagree then state why?.

dont pm people and ask how its done.
dont post for the sake of nimbers.
dont personaly attack other posters, i'll have to eat you.
dont just agree with so and so tell us why you agree.

do try to develope a character, and style of your own.
do try and think before you post, this one i have great difficulty with.
do show curtesy to all posters.

have fun make us feel we know you and we will expect to hear from you and probably talk about you a bit, follow this advice and you can be like me mad yes off the wall, out of his tree certainly, but you will soon have a place in the secret areas of this site.
i might even show you the boiler room Exclamation
