Hmm...hard to say really. I'd say yes (especially if you like a bit of DIY :)) as long as you can carry around the prepped bottle. It makes a great giveaway too :D.

Do you like the effect? It is one of the few tricks that are hard to tell how good they are from the demo video. Thanks.

Hey everyone,

Thanks for your continued interest, just a couple of things, Samdan, you can do it for friends and family, I have done this on pretty much all my friends and they all have a bottle in their front rooms or kitchen now, on display. Obviously they, (as they know me) know I can't have done exactly what I was saying I did but they still can't understand it and it drives them WILD! And Ace of Spades if you email sales@magicshop.co.uk and explain your situation I'm sure Dominic would be very helpful in finding a solution to your problem, if you have a credit card we will be able to take the payment manually (leaving out paypal) and sort you out.

I am working on some extra tips to include in the DVD boxes, once I have them all written out properly I will notify everyone here and if you can prove your purchase I will gladly let you in on the added thoughts.

Thanks again everyone,

Ben

I'd like to thank Ben for such a great effect.

I found it quite fiddly to prepare the trick, but when you finally get it sorted, it works like a treat...

If you know who you're going to perform the trick on beforehandm you can write their name on the bottle to add a nice twist

Fully reccommend it

I have nothing to say, I just wanted to post something so I'll get an alert when Mr Williams tells us the DVD is ready.

Hi everyone,

Sorry if I have not gotten back to anyone it has been pretty hectic these past few weeks. I'd just like to let everyone know the first batch of DVD's are available, I have for these a word file with some extra tips to include. I also have filmed an explanation of these tips which I am hoping to include on the DVD's second batch as Murphies Magic want to distribute it to all their customers.

If anyone would like these extra tips then please would you email me at ben@unbelievablemagic.com and I will send you the video file (if I can get it small enough) of the tips, I can always send the word document if you would prefer (if you have a slow download rate).

I hope this helps,

Thanks again everyone, I really appreciate your support.

Labelled...

Postby monkeyman » Jun 14th, '07, 17:42

I've been giving this one lots of thought... I've read all the reviews and studied the video like a scholar. I've thought about it again and again but couldn't figure out 'Labelled'. An impresive trick, similar to 'Osmosis' but with a plastic bottle instead, labelled is an impresive piece of close-up magic. I spent days deliberating and thought I was so close to figuring it out but I just couldn't do it with a SEALED bottle.

Eventually I succombed to the download and gave Ben his dues for this fantastic effect.

The video is around half an hour long and covers the entire creation and performance of the effect. Ben begins straight away by showing you how to make the bottle, and yes I do agree with the previous post, it does look like Ben's about to take you down a glaringly obvious path that's not worth a penny; but persevere, the actual answer is more ingenious than E=MC2.

Ben meticulously goes over the creation of the effect and is very helpful with little hints, to add greater success, throughout. Once you've watched it, you're not left with unanswered questions. This is an improvement on previous 'single-street-magic' tutorials (I'm thinking 'Passing thru' by Kevin Parker) which often leave something to be desired. However, as previously mentioned, what you're really paying for is the secret, I doubt you'll watch this video more than twice, so you have to decide whether this effect is worth it for you.

Overall I rate this effect highly. Very highly. Once I'd studied the video, I got straight ahead with making the bottle... and wow, some bottle. Once I'd made up a Coke bottle I just sat on the floor in my room looking at it, holding it in my hands, feeling my synapses buzz with electricity as I considered the enormity of this effect. The label, inside the bottle, with my signature on and the seal unbroken. This is strong magic. And hits spectators harder than Chris Eubank could.

However, it is just one effect and you have to decide whether it is suitable for your style of magic. If you do long, serious, story ttricks: I doubt this is for you. However if you're into the new wave of, patterless, Guerrilla magic that is all about being visual rather than psychological: then this is certainly for you. You make your mind up...

I love this effect and thick the method and handling is excellent. However I do feel that it becomes more of a puzzle to spectators than a trick. They watch the label penetrate the bottle and they scream in amazement, however this lasts seconds before they pass the bottle around trying to figure out how it was done. Fear not, they'll never ever get it, the bottle ends completely clean, but you need to chose whether you want your audiences reaction be "That was incredible that guy is very talented" or "That was incredible, how did he do it?"

'Labelled' - Ben Williams: 8/10

Chris.

This is one I have been thinking about for a while as it looks so great from the Demo. What held me back was the disappointment I had with Ben's Hypnotrick. I am hoping this is a lot better.

Few questions (without exposure) if someone would be so kind to answer:

1) Is there an impromptu version in the booklet?
2) Is the gaff difficult to prepare?
3) Can it be made with common materials?
4) Is it angle sensitive?
5) Is the gimmick discreet?

1) Nope. It's not an impromptu beast.
2) It takes some time and can be fiddly in places, but doesn't require, say, complex calculations or a lathe.
3) You need next to nothing besides the blazingly obvious.
4) Nope.
5) Tricky to answer that without being too revealing. Though you're not 'clean', this isn't really a gimmick-based thing - it's more of a method of achieving an effect.

Thanks for your help. Have you found it 'finnicky' to perform or is it quite straightforward? I'm thinking about it in the context of a cabaret/stage show.

I can't say I've done it lots - for reasons - and I've never done it in a professional setting. What Monkeyman wrote about it naturally lending itself to a 'hit and run', single effect that (apparently) comes out of nowhere is well said. However, there's absolutely no reason, method-wise, why you couldn't use it in a caberet set. It would take some thought to frame it logically, though. It's a bit... um... OK: say there was an effect where a selected card appeared in a horse's ear. Great. But how do you introduce the horse?

Sometimes on stage there are bottles of water, if it's a longer show, so it could be used in that context. If it's practical it's sounds like a good addition to my show. I bought one of Ben's other tricks & it was unusable (sub Marvin's stuff) but this one looks really impressive.
I just don't want to get stung again!

Can the spec handle the bottle beforehand? Obviously they can after if it can be given as a keepsake.
