Cost
Between £9 and £15

Difficulty
(1=easy to do, 2=No sleights, but not so easy, 3=Some sleights used,
4=Advanced sleights used, 5=Suitable for experienced magicians only)
1-5 Goes through handling and basics through to the more difficult sides

Review
OK - I bought this book on a whim from - Houseofmagicuk - and I have to be perfectly honest I found it a difficult read from cover to cover - Unlike the Royal road for example. The book is intended to be a reference for tricks though and as a result is a FANTASTIC purchase.
I am a huge fan of Tom Mullica and when I heard him being interviewed he mentioned that this was a reference point for his 'Multiple Ciggies Tounged' trick - i knew that it was a winner.
Enough of the ramble - The book goes through every stage of Ciggie magic from the simplest of holds and palming techniques right through to how you can set up a routine it also has numerous illustrations and photos (Black and White) I did find it confusing to start with as there are alot of abbreviations to follow - this gets easier with every page though!! eg - LH = Left hand!!!! I use it frequently to pick up new ideas for tricks as I can always get hold of a cigarette - handy for when people don't want to see a card trick!! If anyone is interested with ciggie magic (and some of the palms/productions can be used elsewhere in magic!) then this is a must have.

Overall
8/10 [- If anyone wants to learn tounging (ooh er!) 9/10]

I couldn't imagine reading this book cover to cover. It is exactly what it says it is - an encyclopedia. If you are into cigarette magic, then this is a must have in your library.

Here's the thing, though...

I always see posts about impromptu magic. Books like this are invaluable for impromptu magic. Sure, you're not going to get any routines or explanations of doing impromptu, but who cares?

Think about it this way:

The book is about how to do hundreds of tricks and sleights using a cylindrical item. Next time you're at your mate's house and his/her kid wants you to show them some magic, well, I'll bet that kid would have some crayons. Out at McDonalds? Straws will fit the bill. Or those little golfing pencils...

With some creativity, you could come up with a very unique "impromptu" presentation.

Personally, I like books like this.

Thank you for the review, Andy.

Mike.
