ickle pickle - blister

Price: £5 or there abouts

Where from: Just about anywhere...do a search why dontcha for the cheapest...emagictricks.co.uk should have it...

Ease of use: near enough zero really, what you need to do should be done naturally anyway....

Firstly, i realise this is an old item, but i've done the necessary searches and can't find mention of this one anywhere, so here goes....

Third Degree Burn is very popular at the moment, but i haven't got it - so i can't make a comparision at all...so there!

I think what made me buy this, and not 3rd degree was the realism (and ok, the price) - but this is by no means me dismissing 3rd degree - especially as it seems to get superb reviews...just a personal choice really..

The basic idea is - you provide a sheet of paper, draw round your hand and ask someone to pick a finger on the paper and burn through it with a fag or lit match...you then yelp in pain and show a blister on your exact same finger...

I like to dress it up as a voodoo kinda thing, though recently i've done it as a form of suggestion - as in that there's been cases where people have been blindfolded and touched with what they think is a red hot poker, and their skin has reacted as such, blistered and painful; yet what they were really touched with was an ice-cube..

the premise being that the mind creates the reaction to what it thinks is the cause (that make sense?!)...

It's a very realistic looking blister, lasts about 20-30 seconds...and it always helps if you offer your finger for them to touch and you "OUCH" as they touch it...makes 'em jump...

very nice carry-about effect...dirt cheap...very strong reactions if played out well....5/5

mmmmmmmm this sounds like a T.A. Waters effect, found in the massive reprint of all his stuff, 'Mind Myth and Magick'

Was he credited at all in the instructions?

All the best,
John

to be honest, i didn't really read the instructions...and as im not familiar with the T.A. Waters book(s) i honestly don't know!

Water's book though...thank you for the inadvertent reminder.....one of those ones that keeps slipping through the net...

by the way though - if you don't own this effect, how do you know what's 'involved' in the first place? just curious....

Hi again,

I don't know exactly whats involved, however the effect/presentation is exactly the same as the Waters one, so I was just thinking that some credit might be due?

Cheers,
John

i'll be able to answer that in a fortnights time (after i've ordered Myth n Magic)...but if anyone does own both perhaps they can shed some light?

I got no idea...

For those of you who own 3rd degree burn, have you ever had any less than positive responses to that effect as its (in my eyes anyway) a 'magical' blister as opposed to a 'voodoo' one?

Or rather, in my book, there would be perhaps a tiny tiny chance that the suggestion/voodoo one could be possible, whereas the 3rd degree one is out and out 'magic'.... :?:

I have seen a blister effect back in the mid 1970s and everyone has the gimmick in their pocket and is likely Waters effect. What I do know is that Ickle Pickle made a knockoff of a Martin Lewis effect called the Big Switch. I saw one and the cover sheet said " As seen on a Martin Lewis lecture." It was a piece of c*** (not the best), poorly made and it didn't work very well. People who make knockoffs and sell them using the originators name on it commit fraud, and if someone buys that junk will bad mouth the product thinking it was Martins. Be careful of products sold by Ickle Pickle. I won't buy anything from them because of their trying to cheat the originator out of his earning a living from his own product.

A similar effect to this is in the Harry Lorayne authored Tarbell Vol.7 where you put the tip of your finger on someones cigarette and show the blister and immunity to pain.
T.A. Waters method is excellent too and is far more suited to a mentalist demonstration.

I wonder how you can burn something with a fag? You make him fart and put a lighter under his ass?

The reference to 3rd Degree implies that it's the same method. From your description, it sounds identical to the effect in M,M & M except rather than drawing a hand you ask them to concentrate on one of their fingers and the same one on your own hand has the blister appear.
