Juan Hundred Dollar Bill Switch

Postby E.Tsang » Aug 26th, '06, 07:55

The Effect

Juan Hundred Dollar Bill Switch-A normal dollar bill is examined and then displayed at your fingertips. Both hands are clearly seen to be empty. The bill is not folded up or covered in any way. The entire face of the dollar bill is in full view and stays in full view as it visibly morphs into a one hundred dollar bill. Both sides of the bill are clearly shown and the bill is handed out for immediate examination.

Cost

$33.50 (Off Ellusionist website)

Also available at other places i.e. Penguin magic

Difficulty
(1=easy to do, 2=No sleights, but not so easy, 3=Some sleights used,
4=Advanced sleights used, 5=Suitable for experienced magicians only)

I would say a 2/3...nothing too difficult

Pros

Really clean bill switch (no palming of bills in any way)
Money is not gimmicked
Use any currency
Not limited to money to money switches (Cheque to money etc...)

Cons

Cannot be done completely surrounded (Doug Explains angles well in the DVD)
Uses a prop (most magician will have this. If not, wont cost more than $5)

Review

What you get is a instructional DVD explaining every aspect you need to know on how to perform this bill switch. The first section of the DVD features Doug explaining how he came up with this effect and how he developed into the juan bill switch. Doug does a really good job explaining every little detail needed to know about the props needed, handling of the bills and cleaning up after the routine. Doug then explains how to perform the effect with the camera in the first person view which comes in really handy. Later in the DVD, Doug also explains how to perform the effect using different sized and coloured bills. The DVD also features different variations using the Juan Hundred Dollar Bill switch (see list below)

Extras

Check to Cash - Write yourself a check for $100, perform the switch, and leave yourself with a $100 bill.
Squiggle to Signature - Take out a dollar and a marker, and draw a big squiggle on the dollar. Hold it up, perform the switch, and the random line has now become your signature.
Nightshades - The effect in Art of Astonishment, with the sunglasses on George Washington's face that move up the bill can be performed with the Juan Hundred Dollar Bill Switch.

The DVD also teaches Dan White's Handy 500 which is a variation of the Hundy 500. Doug's friend Dan White teaches his own effect. However, you need to know the basics of Hundy 500 because it requires the same gimmck used but Dan does not go into any detail regarding how to construct the gimmick needed.

Overall

The Juan hundred Dollar Bill switch is the first bill switching effect i i've purchased. For me, the Juan bill switch is really good and is also easy to perform considering the handling it uses. It's a shame because i do not own the Hundy 500 which meant i couldnt learn the Handy 500. However, on the whole, the Juan Hundred Dollar Bill switch really worked for me. Good 8/10

Nice review. I'm definitely going to pick this one up now. I was looking at it the other day and wondering if it was worth it.

Thanks,
