I'm on my third, but in 17 years, that's not too bad... I keep mine in a separate pocket of my wallet only for gaffs.
I'd echo what everyone else says here. Switch it out if you're that worried. It's easy to do. My handling goes something like this:
Does anyone have a £1 coin?
Take their borrowed coin (no need to have it examined as it's theirs.
Switch it and pocket their £1.
Borrow a 1p
Switch it, but don't pocket it.
Place the open coin unique in their hand, as they close their hand, do "the move" to close it.
Use magician's choice to get them to select a coin. Place THEIR 1p on top of their hand, then show them the coin is out of their hand. (I add smoke, but that's for effect). When they open their hand, say "that's my fee" and take the £1. Pocket it, and switch it in your pocket. That way, you've done the "complex" switches before the trick starts and the easy switch when people are liable to burn into your hands. Simple.
