Mind Bender Review

Postby lostboi989 » Aug 30th, '06, 09:28

The Effect A spectator picks any card from a deck, you place it on the back of your palm and just by running your fingers above it, not touching the card at all, it begins to bend right in front of there eyes.

Cost

16.95 download
18.95 dvd

Difficulty 2
(1=easy to do, 2=No sleights, but not so easy, 3=Some sleights used,
4=Advanced sleights used, 5=Suitable for experienced magicians only)

Review

I bought this effect and a few others about 3 days ago, I have mastered most of them. When I seen the video for mind bender I was amazed. I bought and I was not dissapointed. The downloaded video was very high quality, and explained everything perfectly. My only gripe with the video is at the beginning when Brad Christian is rambling on about the effect, telling u how its done and preforming it but doing it so you can't follow along. This goes for like 5 or 10 minutes before the real instruction happens. It seems totally pointless to me.

The actual instruction part is very well done. Some part seemed a lil un-coordinated, but overall very nice. And the technique bit at the end is very useful to.

As for the actuall effect i was kicking myself it was so easy, but it is VERY visual. I had it mastered in a hour. As on the dvd it said not to preform it in the beginning of a routine, because of how powerful the effect is, it can make your other tricks seem weak. I developed a mix of stigmata followed by mind bender using some patter to link the two together, like how when the spectator picks a card, there is power infused in them that allows the magician to find the cards or do other magical things..(thats at the end of stigmata) then I say, ill demonstrate this and launch into mindbender. The reactions ive gotten so far have been total silence and shock, to swearing, to leaving to the room, etc. Not bad for just re-starting magic again ;)

The effect is also very versatile, with a little practice you can make it bend on a spectators hand, that is even more amazing in my opinion.

Overall

It was was totally worth the money and i definatley recomend this to anyone who wants a extremley powerful reaction at the end of a routine :D

I never seen a review for this on here so i hope i did it ok :D And i hope it was informative for you guys.

I'm tempted to buy this just to see if it's the same as my method for bending cards on my palm...

its differant, the card bends on the back of your hand, and u can even bend it on the back of a spectators hand :)

Tom Lauten also reviewed this favourably a while back (where has he been recently anyway?). I had no idea how it was done until I stumbled across a way of recreating the same thing by accident and I have to say it really bothers people. I'll definitely be purchasing it myself now to learn some proper handling.

I finally gave in to CUPS last night and bought it to find out how it differs from mine. It's the inverse of my process, if you see what I mean, though I can make a card look like a Pringle if I need to.

The video was too annoying to watch all the way through though. I mean, it's a simple, strong, relatively impromptu effect, so why over hype the video as if you've been given the keys to a magical kingdom? That was my first Ellusionist download. Are they all that hyped?

I was recently helping out someone who was learning from the Card Club videos and yes, they are super-hyped too. The man has an attitude that had me grinding my teeth in seconds ('I'm your guru; worship me!'). And that DL....unbelievable! (This was why the guy needed help). I was shocked to see Out of Sight, Out of Mind being taught - as if he has a right! And as a beginner effect! Now I understand why so many people go into a frothing rage at the mention of Ellusionist.

Kids, just say 'no'! You don't need this.

PS The girly eye make-up he wears just looks plain scary.

What you call heroism is just an expression of this fact; there is never a scarcity of idiots

Mindbender

This was reviewed a while back. It is really powerful if performed correctly. The video is a bit pedantic, but the scences from the performances on the street are really good. I would highly recommend this as it is 'anytime anywhere' and great for pubs!

I would recommend this DVD to everyone! I think it's looks like a real magic. You can do this anywhere, anytime. and it is really easy to set this up this will allow us to concentrate to the performance itself. a brilliant DVD and tricks by anthony.

IT IS WORTH A MONEY. what a powerful magic routine.!

...it's all in the performance....

if you just "do it", then its gonna be nowhere near as powerful as "performing it"...

if you don't get what i mean, and want to just rush out and do it, then you only have yourself to blame...
