Just Think - by Adrian Sullivan

Note: I have just purchased this and am aware that it is by no means a new effect. I searched for a review and found only one (very vague), from the old forum. So I didn't think it would hurt to write a new one.

The Effect

The performer asks the spectator to merely think of ANY card. They are then asked to write it down on ANY piece of paper and to crumple or fold it up up (all whilst the performer's back is turned). The performer then turns around and removes a card from an ordinary deck, and it is found to match the thought of card.

Cost

£10.00 from http://www.jbtv.co.uk/

Difficulty
(1=easy to do, 2=No sleights, but not so easy, 3=Some sleights used,
4=Advanced sleights used, 5=Suitable for experienced magicians only)

A definate 1.

Review

This is a fantastic trick. I performed this to my magician friend and he was UTTERLY BAFFLED as to how i worked out which card he thought of. There is a gimmick involved, which fits neatly into a deck of cards
I see this as a great 'utility device', it is self-working and fits neatly into a deck of bikes. The gimmick is easily ditched on an off-beat, making the trick examinable after the revelation. In theory, you could use it to deduce thought of things other than cards, like names, numbers and symbols, although suitable routine structure and justification would be needed.

The gimmick itself is well made, although i had to make (very minor) adjustments to mine.

Overall

Good value at £10.00, i expect to get a lot of use out of this...even though i don't really like using gimmicks, this is a good one.

8 out of 10 :D

Just Think

Excellent stuff. I have made one of these and use it combined with a number and card reveal. The cards are shown, and returned to the box. Spectator one writes down a number on a post-it note and puts it into an envelope. The cards are shown again. Spectator two selects any card from the face down pack and then writes the name on a post it and puts it into an envelope. I then use the Jaks or Better brass plates (see viking magic) to seal up the envelope and let each spectator swing the plates in a pendular motion, and then I reveal the number and the card. Went down a treat last weekend!

That sounds really good. I'm not familiar with those plates you mentioned, i'll look them up. I'm using it to find a card and a relatives name, it packs a punch 8)

Tha plates are pricey ($95!), but you are paying for a Viking Magic collector's workshop piece and the method that comes with it. As for the 'Just Think' idea, I combined it with a little something extra so that the I do the number reveal and a card reveal. PM for more details.

This sounds like a neat little trick which if I'm correct was shown on one of the Max Maven DVDs, if so & I'm not trying to fish otherwise what kind of a life span does the gimmick have in use & is it easy to replace the certain something when needed.

I ask because I made the gimmick on the Max Maven one & I did a remarkably poor unusable job on it but if it worked correctly I would love to add this one in.

So if anyone knows the MM trick I'm talking about then please let me know.

Johnny B

The principle etc is not the same as the MM trick you refer to.

This is one "bought trick" that I use regularly.

For some reason it received a great deal of negative feedback on other forums with claims of it not working etc

I've been using the same one for over 3 years and it has never failed me and always gets a tremendous reaction.

I would not hesitate to recommend it. Self working brilliance.

P.S. It's actually based on a principle 1st published by Anneman many, many years ago.

This effect is identical to Jay Sankey's Private Property - which is also based on the Anneman method.

It's an excellent effect - and the added bonus that it's a regular deck of cards makes it even stronger. You can pull this effect out at anytime during a set, to incredible reactions.

Okay thanks for that, as I have a ton of Jays DVDs I don't recall this but can you tell me which one it's on or is it a stand alone?
Yes I really must get around to cataloging my Jay Sankey tapes.

It was standalone but now I think that it is only being pacakged as a freebie with The Art Of Sleight of Hand DVD. From what I have heard it may well be slightly better than 'Just Think'. Sankey's effect is a nice solution to an Anneman method.
