Tuition Centre(Basics only)

Postby Davendithas » Oct 8th, '06, 02:23

I guess this forum should have a catergory called 'Tuition Centre' in which newbies can learn skills like deal, shuffle, cut and so on.(But not teaching tricks!)
Guess we didnt really buy these skills from pros, we train ourselves right? Since we didnt even spend even a cent on it, why dont we let other newbies know how its done. They will have the train themselves to master the skills so all we have to do is just tell them the method.
It should not be a place whereby people teach tricks or something like that.

Cheers,
Davendithas

Well, let me ask you why someone would want to write these tutorials when there are already lots of books an DVDs out there written by professionals?

Because if someone just want to learn how to shuffle, cut the deck or something like that, would he waste 'so much money' just to learn the skills? We learn it by chance or we have seen others do it and we practise it ourselves. We just give some tutorial thats all. No other special reason.

So you want to learn card magic - and I'm guessing if you want to know how to shuffle you won't know any sleights; so how is buying a book that will teach you how to actually perform magic as oppose to handle the cards a waste of money?

Buy yourself a copy of the Royal Road to Card Magic (pretty inexpensive really) and take it from there. If you really think learning some skills with which you can do magic is a waste of money, then maybe you shouldn't be doing magic :?.

There's already a tuition section in the MO section, but it's not really used that much.

... as cardza said, there is a tuition section that can be used. people there already asked for tips for shuffling and such. and SPEND MONEY on magic. its impossible to learn anything good without spending any money

?!~

For crying out loud, the msn button under my name is to talk about magic with me, NOT A FREE MAGIC GIVEAWAY LINK. dont abuse it

Also i would like to add if you want to learn magic after you have learnt the basics you would have to buy a book anyway. So you might as well buy a book that teach you the basics and some magic and you can learn at your own pace. Also it would be a bit risky as everyone wouldnt know what would be acceptable and what wouldnt so it probally wouldnt be used very much.

All that information is contained in the Royal Road to Card Magic, it is so inexpensive these days.

You will love Modern Coin Magic, that book is wonderful, it's full of stuff and you'll be reading it for quite some time! Even if I find RRTCM good I rarely read it anymore, but it's a good book to start with.

I am eagerly awaiting delivery, but as is human nature I am already trying to convince myself that I really can afford the 5 Dvd set to accompany it. Damn that Credit card

Davendithas, you really need to realize, that even for the simple things, there are a great number of resources out there, and at very reasonable prices. I suggest you bite the bullet and get one of these. Also, if for nothing else, it helps to support our fellow magicians. If we just revealed every little thing and put it on the internet, there wouldnt be anything special

duh??!

Postby G3ck0 » Nov 21st, '06, 13:51

So let me get this right. This is a forum where people are supposed to talk about and share tricks but no-one actually shares anything?

Everyone just seems to be talking about whether they should share and whether they should go buy a book.

Whats the point?

People look on a forums so they DONT have to go and spend money on books because they are casual magicians and maybe not professionals.

This forum should actually be named 'lets not talk magic' or 'recomend magic books'
!

No it isn't. As we've stated several times and with lots of explanations as to why this policy is in force, we don't share tricks.

If people look on forums to avoid buying magic then TM is most certainly not the place to look. Magic costs money - it doesn't have to be a lot of money but inevitably freebies can often be rip- offs, pirate copies or just stolen.

Postby G3ck0 » Nov 21st, '06, 14:56

Magic shouldn't cost any money! Knowledge shouldn't cost any money! This is why libraries we're created.

Whether you like it or not the internet is the biggest library in existance. If TM won't depart the slightest bit of knowledge...not even the basics then I and many others will look elsewhere. In my opinoin TM should change their policy. A forum such as this could be so much more.
