Indecent Review

Postby trickyricky » Nov 6th, '06, 17:14

The Effect

Here's what your spectator sees: a card is selected from any deck. It's a free choice-- no force. Signed. The card is then lost in the deck, then shuffled. The cards are then dribbled on top of a sealed Ziploc bag.

Slowly, the bag is lifted up from underneath the chaos of cards to show that one card is sealed INSIDE the bag-- the spectator's signed card.

Cost

$24.95 + p&p

Difficulty
(1=easy to do, 2=No sleights, but not so easy, 3=Some sleights used,
4=Advanced sleights used, 5=Suitable for experienced magicians only)

Between 1 and 2 i reckon. Theres 3 moves basically and they are fairly simple.

Review

There are various parts that need to be reviewed to get a good idea of how good this effect is.

Quality: 10/10, The dvd quality is superb quality. It was filmed in HD so you could even watch it on your huge 60" plasma if you really wanted to. The sound quality is also as good as it could possibly be!

Effect: 10/10, Its so simple but im convinced that the effect will floor anybody! It even has a clip on the dvd of a guy just staring at the bag with the card inside in complete silence. He's like in awe and shock and slowly takes the card out and starts laughing and freaking out

Method: 9/10, Very simple and yet very clever! I dont see what people are talking about a clean up for. Its part of the trick!

Teaching: 10/10, On the DVD, Wayne says "After watching this, you will have No questions." Its absolutely true! There are 5 steps to the trick and he goes through the slowly and explains EVERYTHING that you need to know, as well as the little nuances that make the effect so great!

Overall

Im going to start carrying my cards around in a plastic bag just to do this effect! It will be one of those things that they will keep for a long time and remember you for in the future!

In my personal scale of ratings i'd put this at 9 bananas out of a possible 9 and bit. Get it, learn it, show it, blow minds with it!

P.S. The fact that im going to be taught how to do this by Wayne Houchin himself has nothing to do with how much i like this effect.

I was born with Multiple Personality Disorder. Luckily, they are all me, they just dont always get along...

 Thanks for the review - I'm glad you are so pleased with it - would you possibly be able to go into a bit more detail, especially regarding the clean-up/how the trick actually looks compared to the video clip, as these are the issues people have been concerned with...

I too liked the trick very much.

Clean-Up: The clean up is really easy to do and it takes 2 seconds to complete (unless you're using the alternate technique for step 1 - The Secret Move)
And you can do the clean-up right in front of the spectators and its so natural that its completely disguised by its simplicity and naturalness.
The other deception for this move is that the trick is over so they are just amazed and thinking how did you pull that while you're doing the clean-up.
So because of these three things I don't think that clean-up is so difficult that it deserves all the attention its getting around here.

And the trick looks exactly the same as compared to video clip.

EDIT: I just forgot to say that the music is just too good that it should be mentioned. I'm listening to it over and over again for some magical reasons.

Very nice review, I myself just got it a few days ago but am having a bit of trouble about how much * to * on the * to get it to * but I'm pretty sure that this will be a mind-blowing effect once I get it down.

Did you really win the contest or was that a joke?

If you did, congrats and I might need to talk to you a little bit more to pass a message or two onto Wayne .

Farlsborough - The effect looks exactly the same as on the preview, except it doesnt show you the card being taken out of the bag. You take the card out of the bag, 2 second clean up, and then hand both the bag and card to the speccy!

Atomo - I dont think you can order it from anywhere but Ellusionist yet, but im sure in a couple of weeks there will be some UK suppliers stocking this DVD

David R. - Yes, i REALLY won the contest! I got a Black Ghost deck, Masters deck, hand written note off Wayne, and of course, im going to be getting a visit from Wayne himself to teach me the effect, hang out, and talk about magic! I cant wait!

At the moment, i have received about 50 emails and PMs from people over at E regarding:

a) getting them Wayne's signature on a card,
b) buying the prize off me,
c) asking Wayne various questions,
d) coming along to meet Wayne.

My answers were:
a) Maybe
b) No
c) I will probably start a post about this at a later date and choose a few questions from the millions that im going to get
d) Depends what were doing because even i dont know whats happening yet.

I have only spoke to Wayne once and we both agree that we should go for a drink somewhere and maybe do some magic for people!

Also, i took some photos of the stuff i received!

You do not even realize how jelous I am of you right now .

CONGRATS to you though for winning! I have though, tried to call Wayne regarding a trick that he came up with (keep getting the answering machine and don't think he is taking me seriously), and I came up with a new meathod for; which I wanted to know if he would be willing to have a "dual" release of it.

Anyone remember how "Criss Angel" predicted the outcome of a Nascar race?

Anyway, I understand that you are getting tons of e-mails and pm's asking about what I am asking you right now, but here I go anyway....

Could you please pass my phone number of e-mail over to Wayne telling him that I would like to talk to him about "dual-releasing" a trick...and maybe an autograph on a card ....*insert bribe here *

For stage, I wouldn't recommend. Table work, sure. ...but noting the angle is normally from above, I would recommend finding something more stage appropriate. A bit of a disclaimer, though - my opinion is that only card productions and the sort are appropriate for stage magic, so consider that in evaluating my suggestion. (I don't wish to open this for debate, but take it as just that - my hobbyist opinion and nothing more.)

I do like this dvd (download in my case), and despite the price I am impressed by the effect. Simplicity is key, and though I think there will be badly done impromptu performances the world over exposing the methodology, I will definitely get my practice in and use this trick in my street performances. Here's to presumed innovation and simple yet stunning effects! So far, my biggest suggestion is to milk the effect for as long as you can. The performance is key, otherwise the viewers will be unimpressed. Wayne has some excellent suggestions on your mannerisms when the card is shown for the first time in the ziploc. I highly suggest you follow his recommendations. It makes the trick so much better.

9/10!
