New Tallys

Postby Alex_Haines_2K11 » Apr 26th, '11, 16:46

OK here's a question: has anyone got their hands on a new deck of tallys since the USPCC factory moved states? I have used tallys for as long as I can remember and I love them sincerely, I was planning on printing my custom deck onto tally linoid stock cos even though bikes are great the tallys are just slightly superior, however i've just heard that the new tally stock since the factory relocated to kentucky is rubbish. Does anyone know about this and has anyone experienced a deck of these new tallys? I bought some decks only a couple of weeks ago from my favourite dealer but they still had the ohio address on the box.

Anyone?!?

This is serious!!!!!

I have a deck (c) 2009 with Erlanger, KY as the box address. I liked them to start with, but they've since got a nasty bend in them. I'm not sure if that's because I was riffle-shuffling too much or because of bad card stock. My bicycles bought at the same time are holding up much better. But I wouldn't want to pass judgement as I can't remember how much I've abused the tally-ho's.

I have some Kentucky-manufactured Tallys too. They seem OK to me.

I've bought Bees recently and I just can't faro them. Have they changed? Or maybe when I used to use Bees I wasn't into faro shuffles -- I can't remember. Certainly I'm having no problems faro-ing with Texan and Bikes, so it can't be that I've lost my touch!

As I say, maybe when I used to use Bees some time ago I never used to faro, I can't actually remember.

In fact, Bees definitely have changed. I've found a deck I bought a year or so ago and hadn't opened. Comparing with a deck bought recently, the difference is obvious. For example, the old deck, you can stick a post-it note to, the new deck, it slides right off.

Unless it's temporary. Someone told me USPCC are experimenting a lot at the moment.

USPCC are experimenting a lot at the moment. The bicycle changed a while ago to Rider instead of standard and now they have changed back to standard. They was a very very slight difference. They is a video on youtube about the difference.

Are there Tally Ho bridge cards? The poker cards are too large for my delicate hands...

Can't find the video...

What do you mean by 'The bicycle'? Do you mean the artwork or the texture?

I'm aware of these changes to USPCC cards:

* Bee cards (possibly others) having a thick plastic coating, making faro shuffles almost impossible

* Smaller pips (on my most recent Bike deck, the club pips are really small compared to the other pips!)

* rough edges on Bike cards (maybe on others too)--may not cause any obvious practical problem but feels horrid

Anyone know of any other changes?

The newer bee cards are horrible, from my experience only the "Stinger Bee's" are any good for farrows now :(. This is a shame as I used to do a killer casino routine with a bee deck (Ending in JC Wagners Super Closer - an amazing trick).

I haven't noticed the smaller pips, but have randomly got a deck where the pips, text and lines in general seem to have been printed with the printing equivalent of a fine-liner pen :S very odd.

I've noticed this issue with bikes having rough edges for a while now, its weird because yes, they feel awful when you first remove them from their box and they dont seem to have the same smoothness in your hands if you feel in any way weird when holding them ...

The above 3 points are the main points I too have found (apart from the box design changes too ... which I know has been discussed elsewhere, hence why I've recently purchased a TONNE of old boxes ... for sale at £1 each if anyone wants them :P). Once my current stock of bikes has ran out I'm gonna seriously consider swapping to Mandolins, Phoenix or quite possibly Tally-Ho cards.

On a side note, does anyone know where in the UK you can get Phoenix cards and their gaffs? I've seen them on Vanishing Inc, but thats USA isn't it?

Great review though, I have toyed with all kinds of playing cards and stuck with Tally Ho's for a while after getting a combo pack of "Vipers" and standard red/blue fan and circle backs for Christmas one year - they have a very cool look to them when flourishing and doing table cuts I found.
