2 card monte, impossible version

Postby merlino750 » Nov 13th, '06, 16:42

2 card monte

Available from http://www.magical-tricks.com/

VIDEO PREVIEW: http://www.magical-tricks.com/twocard256.wmv

Price: $3.99

Close up card magic

Difficulty: 2 out of 5

Angle: people can be in front of you, 180degrees.

The Effect

Show both the cards and openly place one card behind your back. Ask the spectator what card is in your hand. No matter what the spectator chooses he (or she) is always WRONG.

My opinion:

This is a killer effect, very easy to perform (the only "difficult" is in showing both sides of cards clearly), and it just seems an impossible trick.

Cards can't be examined...well actually you with some sleight of hands and a deck in your hand you "can" :-) (sorry don't wanna say more for exposure problems).

I've done this surrounded and it works out quite nicely. I'll PM you as some of the stuff might be close to exposure but put together with what you wrote would reveal the trick (even though every single one of the people on here will have already known how it is done anyway).

If this is the effect I'm thinking of (it's in Mark Wilson's Complete Course In Magic) then you're right. This is an absolute corker!

I do this down the pub sometimes to try and win a pint :D

You wont find much better anywhere and it's nothing - a rigmarole with a few bits of paper and lots of spiel. That is Mentalism

Just watched the vid... it is indeed the version I'm thinking of.

All in all, a great trick, and another brilliant reason to buy Mark Wilsons Complete Course In Magic :D

I really don't like this version of the 2 card monte.

In my opinion, it's only effective if done once per person/crowd. It's easy for a spectator to figure out what's going on after they know what to expect.

Besides, you can never really show the "face" of the card that remains on your hand and the first thing peolple want to see as soon as you reveal that the card has changed is the face of the card you're holding.

All my monte effects use miss-you-know-what cards, which in my opinion is a far much better and cleaner method.

If well performed, people are CONVINCED to see the face of both cards, and the back of both cards...that's why you turn them both over, to show the other face...but i respect your opinion :)

what about your version? I'm curious

"My" (not mine, it's from Penguin) version is actually a 3 card monte, but you can easily turn it into a 2 card monte.

Check it out here

The beauty of this method is that you can show the faces and backs of the cards pretty much all the time (with a certain restriction that no-one will ever notice).

very effective, but different.

liked it very much :-)

can u show COMPLETELY the face of the cards, at the same time?

and: the choice of the 3 cards is really free? or you need THOSE 3 cards?

Not completely, but as you can see in the video, a LOT of the card is shown.

And no, no free choice, but you can make it look like it is.

It's still a very good trick, but still with his pro and cons...
of course you can show everything but not one corner, and you can clean up as well...

i knew this version already then, just didn't remember :)

Either of those two sells it :)

You're right, but afterall all tricks have pros and cons

The only major problem I encountered while performing Penguin Monte is when performing on a table some people will start turning the cards over and exposing the secret. Then again, it only happened to me once and I've learned to manage those hecklers...
