3 Card monte

3 card monte

Available from http://www.magical-tricks.com/

VIDEO PREVIEW: http://www.magical-tricks.com/twocard256.wmv

Price: $3.99

Close up card magic

Difficulty: 2 out of 5

The Effect

Three cards are shown in a fan, the odd card is in the middle. The three cards, as a fan, are turned over to show that the odd card has a different color back. the spectator pulls the odd card out of the fan and turns it over. It has magically changed to match the other two cards.

My opinion:

As 2 card monte i described before (other post) this is a very nice effect, very easy to perform (the only "difficult" is in showing the 3 cards without exposure), and it just looks an impossible trick.

Cards can't be examined...but it's a very nice trick to perform between 2 other tricks!

3 card monte

But the cards can be examined, no?

My version uses two red and a blue card. The blue card travels in impossible ways and then all three are turned over to reveal a third oddball card that is the kicker. Only ever use three cards, all of which are examineable at the end.

nope can't examine....or....well if you remove the gimmick with easy sleight of hand, actually yes you can hand off the cards :)

Oh dear....need a better version then. The beauty of the 3 card monte is that you only ever use three cards. The sleights let you show all three and then you have the kicker to end it.

You refer to a gimmick. The one I have been doing has no gimmick.

i mean gimmicked card (is this exposure?), but you can clean up the card easily, if you want.

If you have no gimmick, how can you preform the classic 3 card monte (penguinmagic style) ?

Got a video or a preview?

just sleight of hands?

Traditionally 3 card monte has not used a gimmicked card. The penguin magic version is a method devised to make it easier to preform.

I believe there is a 3 card monte routine covered in Dai Vernon's 'Further Inner Secrets of Card Magic', a quick Google tells me that this can be picked up here : http://www.magicshop.co.uk/vernons-inne ... f5bbe8fbfa

I have never bought from them though.

There appears to be a reference of publications covering routines here : http://archive.denisbehr.de/archive/rou ... ,46,57,139

Penguin's version is a variation of the ultimate 3 card monte.

The classic 3 card monte, as stated, does not use any gimmicked cards.

3 card

I do the classic version. I can do it with any three cards from a deck, so I find it much more versatile.

I perform the actual street con and I do ultimate monte by Skinner (that I made up for myself after watching Ammar perform it). I on occaision do the old tree of hearts only with a "sleeve" gimmick that slides off easily leaving all to be examined.
