The Ladies!

Postby Mandrake » Jun 26th, '03, 18:18

I mentioned this on the Old Forum a couple of hundred years ago so I'll mention it again: Where are the ladies?

I know the proportion of male to female Magicians is well in favour of the lads but, at least with stage Magicians, there's usually a bonny lass around who gets cut in half, levitated, shoved in boxes and baskets, and actually does all the hard work in most cases!

On my forays to 'other forums' (in the dead of night and heavily disguised) I can see that there's a universal scarcity of Magical Maidens so we're not on our own. Any clues as to why this is? Are we frightening them off somehow? Is Magic seen as something they'd rather not do?

Answers please, on a postcard, to.....

(Having made this controversial point, Mandrake gestures hypnotically, settles back in his chair, mumbling, 'Here's to the Ladies, God Bless 'em', and tries very hard to remember what one of those actually is. It's been a long, long time.......zzzzzzzzz)

Actually I have no idea where the reat of us are!I don't know what it is that means there's so few of us, (The president at my local magic circle said a club he knew couldn't find one in Scotland). I think it's the fact we tend to only see men doing magic and therefor perhaps feel we're not allowed or that magic not for us and we then end up in a viscious circle.

Could it be that women like to think that they are firmly grounded in the real, and that pi... larking around with magic isn't really worthy of them? Or possibly that us men like to have a lot of toys to play with?

Just found this thread and wondering how long magicbilly needs to get back on this one.

Can't possibly agree that women are more rational thinkers than men, absolutely no way. But I would love to hear Derren Brown's take on it?

I'd say the reason we get a better reaction from women, is simply that they are happier to express emotion and admit to being completely decieved.

pester pester pester magicbilly your being pestered

from my humble experience women tend to casualy date a magician because they have mystery, but dont tend to stay because in the long run magicians are by thier nature deviose and accomplishid liers and therfore more likely to cheat on them, this is the view of my wife now desceased.

as for women in magic its mostly down to the old boys network, women make good eye candy but dont let them center stage, again the opposite of my view.

i saw a womwen do an act with a broom and a caot she made come alive and do magic for her, women are more creative and like the black widow deadly at bussiness, this is why i think they tend to be frozen out.

please feel free to give us your opinon ladies.

Just asked my other half for her take on this issue and her answer was "it's because men never grow up" and I just couldn't argue with that

By the way she is a counsellor and she also said that research shows that men are the more rational thinkers, can't argue with that either.

I'm off to try and grow up.

my observations doing magic for all ages are when you do a trick most men will think i like that and i would like to know how to do that.

women will think why did you show me that ive got to keep and eye on fred so he can drive home, i must remember to get genny that fat free cheese and bengie monstermunch, where did i leave bens fishing rod he'll want it thursday, that key trick was pretty good, must remember to get new key cut for caravan before friday.......

most women dont have the time to practise magic thier to busy running the world.

i meen this in a nice way we lads would be lost without them just dont ask them what they were actualy thinking about last night see above

No worries! Like you I'm sure I've seen Derren's thoughts on this topic somewhere but can't for the life of me remember exactly where. Will keep looking as I know they're out there somewhere!

yes yes put her online we need all the female votes we can get.

silver if your daughter carrys on with magic and you go comercial you have one of the best selling tool's around the ahhh factor.

doing magic tougether can be one of the best bonding processes you can go through, (you can see i dont have any kids) as your bussines grows you'l have someone behind you learning the ropes so to speak.
its a great motivator to suceed, thats the trouble with names and avatars you cant get an apreciation of someones age, i will be hearby adjusting my postings to you to reflect you status, soory if it came across as if i was treating you as a kid.

moderators could we maybey have an age added to the title so that we ok me mostly can post acordingly acceptable ages would be thirtyish, recycled teanager, i am mog, and older than the hill's.

please help.
