Kaos, by Sean Beard

The Effect
The spectator takes a card from a deck. The card is then mixed and shuffled into the deck. The deck is also handed to the spectator for a shuffle.

The magician then asks the spectator to spread the cards up against a glass surface. While the spectator presses hard on the cards, the magician goes around to the other side of the glass and shows his hands empty. Struggling a bit, he suddenly seems to reach into the glass and pull out a card. Tugging with all his might, the magician slowly manages to pull the card out of the glass. Halfway through he pauses and flexes his fingers, because he's been tugging hard. He continues his pull and manages to get a rather bent and abused card out of the glass! When the card is reviled, it's the spectators!

Cost
At Ellusionist
$24.95 for the DVD or the download
$34.95 for both the DVD and the download

Difficulty
(1=easy to do, 2=No sleights, but not so easy, 3=Some sleights used,
4=Advanced sleights used, 5=Suitable for experienced magicians only)

It'll give this a steady 3. Some sleights are needed, and it will take some practice to get this trick down, but then again, which trick doesn't require practice? :P It is very simple sleights used though, and most people will be able to do this :)

Review
When i first read about Kaos, i was a bit taken back by the fact that there was a "gimmicked version". In my experience, the gimmicked version is usually the best hitting effect, and i hate having to carry around stuff. However, seeing that it could be done without a gimmick, i decided to buy the trick anyways.

I have come to understand that the word "gimmick" doesn't really apply here. It's more like an "item that you almost always have with you that you can buy practically anywhere", and the gimmick is just a small help to those who has a bit of problems at one of the steps.

The trick itself is awesome. The secret is ingenious, and consists of simple sleights that i have known for ages. The secret is combining these simple sleights into this amazing effect.

Pros:
Can be done completely impromptu
Can be done with a burrowed deck of cards
No duplicates, no trick decks
The card can be signed
The spectator can take the card home as a souvenir.
No harm to the glass, what so ever ;)

Cons:
Some, but not many, angles you have to watch out for. But then again, most tricks have that.
Will require quite a bit of showmanship for it to really hit home.
It's a long trick, which could make spectators wander, or strangers to happen to stop by.

Overall
Overall, ill give this trick a 8 out of 10. It loses two points, because it IS a lengthy trick and because it takes a bunch of practice, aswell as a lot of guts, but in the end, its a very, VERY cool trick to be able to do. Just think, you can do this almost anywhere! :)

I was just wondering about the angle sensititiy.
Through the whole trailer the spectators are always standing on the other side of the window.
Could you tell me which angles would reveal the trick, or would that give away too much information?
Like can a person stand behind you?

rattlestar,

No, the person can't stand behind you. Well, I guess they could if you were a real good blocker and could control them with your body. But I wouldn't recommend it unless you're Daniel Garcia or something.

Actually, now that I think about it, there are several ways that someone could stand behind you, but you'd have to deviate from the routine a little bit, and add something to the window (for cover). But I think that it would take away from the effect to do that, so forget I said that. Just have everyone on the other side of the window and you on the opposite side.

So you actually want me to post my review in an existing review thread, letting it land on page two and GREATLY reducing the chance that anyone would actually read my review?

Why would i bother at all, then?

Adding to a Review keeps the information in one thread thus assisting others with the decision to buy or not. All posts are flagged up as new ones so anyone checking posts since their last visit will see that you've contributed.

... should they choose to read on, on perhaps several pages. I dont see what the big deal is about multiple post on the same trick.

Multiple threads on the same topic tend to suggest that the earlier posts haven't been noticed and readers will have to jump around to find the various fragmented threads - assuming they know about them. It's perhaps just a question of convenience and tidiness rather than a big deal.

However, keeping them in the same thread will greatly reduce the chance that people will read the reviews on the later pages, especially if a thread on a popular trick runs on 5-10 pages. So what will potentially happend is that a great review will be hidden somewhere in the topic that was started with a vauge not-so-good review.

But alas - i guess ill just keep my reviews to myself then..

Not sure about that as we don't usually get many not-so-good Reviews - contentious and out of step with others, possibly way off target and utterly loony but still worth reading :D !

As I mentioned elsewhere, now we have the new Review areas we ought to be able to spot different Reviews on the same item more easily than before so it's really your choice, honestly held thoughts and opinions will be equally valid and worthy of reading whether they be on their own or in with others.
