Too true!! I have the added benefit of being able to wear it all the time. It's a mind blower but I don't like the same people to see it twice so I have to remember who has seen it etc....... I also come unstuck if I forget my phone - to reset the time properly!!

George Formby.
Not to be confused with George Foreman and his Lean Mean electric grill thingies. Anyway, enough of this, crack on with the Buds and the essential research!

I'm sorry I can't reveal that kind of information - it would be classed as exposure and I'd be kicked out of the "Window Cleaning Circle" (Us window cleaners have a penchant for circles by the way - I'd swear that most of my windows are round  ).

I always hoped that it'd be the round window on Play School

Hi all!

I've just got my paws on this lovely prop.

I appreciate that I've only been playing with it for a little while and need to spend time practicing with it to learn its nuances, but does anyone have any tips for ensuring accuracy so that I don't 'overshoot my target' by a minute or two?

Please feel free to PM me if the reply is likely to give too much away on an open forum.

Ta muchly,

Pete

Practice really. If you see it way off, you know you have a while. As it gets closer, just get ready to hit the target.

Hope that doesnt reveal too much, but its mainly in the practice I find. You'll get the feel for it.

So do you like it? How much did you get it for can I ask?

The other bit of advice I'd say is that sometimes the effect can still be very powerful if you are a couple of minutes out. One of the things about this kind of mental effect is that if dressed right a slight miss becomes a hit and makes your uncanny power ( :? ) even more believable.

One thing I always do is ask the spectators how many minutes there are in 12 hours at the start of the routine. This sets me up in case my prediction contains a slight discrepancy with their choice and it allows me to highlight the fact that even a few minutes out is incredible when they had 720 to choose from!

Hope that helps old bean...

I'm a tad disappointed with mine. you know that 'all time amchines are different' [if you don't and you'd like to know (and have a time machine) then you can PM me]
well mine is the sort of lone sheep and acts a lot different to most peoples making it harder to use and even more acting skills to make everything look natural :( If anybody can give me help then please PM me.

Taken from an earlier post:

moonbeam wrote:What I tend to do is "force" people to pick a time in 5 minute increments. When I ask them to pick a time, I'll say something along the lines of, "now visualise a time and picture the hands of the clock/watch pointing to certain numbers on the face." Or I'll just be more direct and say, "choose a time, but please don't make it too difficult so please make it five past, ten past, quarter past, etc." Either way works, so when it comes to the "reveal", you've got more room for error

If you do shoot over by a minute or so, don't dwell on it - most people won't even notice.

Another thing that sometimes happens (albeit not very often :? ), is, for example, the spec selects 5.20 and the reveal is shown to be exactly half way between 5.20 and 5.25 (or maybe 5.15 and 5.20). What I do in this situation is do the reveal in the normal way and before the spec says anything, I kinda hang my head in shame and say something along the lines of, "Well, to be quite honest, I cheated on this one. I wasn't too sure what time you'd chose. I knew you'd chose either 5.20 or 5.25 so I set the watch half way between 5.20 and 5.25 and hoped you wouldn't notice. I thought I'd get away with it but I'm too honest - I just had to come clean  ."

This works for me every time. The spec no longer thinks that you missed by a few minutes, but out of all the choices of times they had - 144 in total (12 x 12) - you manged to whittle it down to 1 of 2 times.

Practice is the best tool - but be prepared to improvise

hello all
I got mine (masters steel with black face as pictured above) on ebay for £45 - bargain. I don't think there's too much worry about these secrets getting into the wrong hands - people browsing these listings are the sort of people that will search online at the likes of dudethat's etc anyway.
My routine involves a train time table - that way I use the prop as a book test (well, a time table test) which not only has an amazing effect (a good twist on both the watch and the book test) but also protects against the popularity of the watch - you can see it done in the conventional way on You Tube! Mentalism should be 99% presentation - the time-table any page any line any time gives me more scope for presentation. When I ask them to choose any page, any line etc - I'll often ask to make it a 'departure time' and I can often drop in a double whammy and do a sealed envelope (my namesake) prediction for the arrival time. By the end of it they remember you predicting an arrival and departure time of a train they chose freely - nothing like what actually happened but the memory of the trick is the important part.

Hi Swami,

That is both sneaky and brilliant - I like it!
And as an out if you overshoot by a few minutes you can always blame British Rail!

Great Idea!
