The Effect
Well I arrived home a while back and there lying on my doormat, after 6 months of anticipation, was De'vo's newest dvd release - De'Ring.
Now I was very excited - I even "had a headache" and missed a lesson in school to watch it (a bit naughty I know

and not only that, but De'vo had personally signed it for me! It says, on the cover, "Chris, Good luck with your manipulations, all my best, yours, De'vo Vom Schattenreich"
Thanks De'!
Now, about the effect. I cannot really say exactly, as there is soo much material on this one dvd! There is the core routine, which consists of a *tight* ring (yes - a tight one! they personally check it out - they sometimes try and yank it off your finger and it bloody hurts - lol

the second phase consists of the same thing - tight ring e.t.c – however this time, rather than the ring literally just *appearing* on your finger, you let them see you put it on…at lightening quick speed!
Once again, the ring is tight…then, it is time to knock them dead…with the third and final phase of de’ring. You start throwing the ring in the air, over and over, then, suddenly, the ring vanishes. Where has it gone? You guessed it – the ring finger! (this phase can be seen in the Q section on Xtreme Beginners)
Not only that, but it teaches many other things besides! He has a section known as “beyond the core” in which he teaches spins, palms, clips, transfers, waves, and other effects to just enhance the already perfect de’ring routine.
There is also a bonus section – it teaches two new underground moves. There is the gryphon roll – the ring rolls over the finger tips – seen in the recent movie “the prestige”, (this is actually performed by the Gryphon himself in the dvd”, and there is also the insanity ladder – “an awesome move using a band on the back of your hand rolling ON your fingers! You have to see this one to believe it!”
My personal opinion is that the gryphon roll is better and more visual than the coin roll, and the insanity ladder is just bloody marvelous

Cost
About £20 overall, with packaging e.t.c
Difficulty
(1=No previous manipulation needed 2=Basic manipulation experience needed 3=Some manipulation experience needed
4=Advanced manipulation experience needed 5=Suitable for experienced manipulators only)
I would put this between a 3 and a 4 – no ring manipulation needed, but card and coin experience e.t.c would help due to your hands then being used to doing strange moves very quickly
Review
First off, I would like to say that this is taught in De’vo’s signature style – no talking, yet perfect. He covers each of the moves in thorough and sometimes exhausting details. He leaves no questions asked, no stones unturned, and even has a private forum on his site where you can have free access to if you purchase the dvd through his site (as I did) or you can purchase access through his site if you acquired the dvd elsewhere. Any questions you can ask there – but I personally think that it is worth entrance just for the ring suggestions in there.
Now – the cover of the dvd is amazing. It has the quote “Before the darkness, there was DE’RING” on the front, and beneath that is says “De’vo’s underground ring manipulation. Experience the speed and power of de’ring” The artwork is flawless, the cover is nice to look at, I personally actually spent around 30 seconds to a minute just staring and taking in the details, before I read the back, and promptly put the dvd into my dvd player and started watching de’ring for the first time.
Now, a couple of things to say – only 1 normal ring is used. There are no oversized rings, no gimmicks, broken, or bent rings used (in fact – it says not to use this – though this is covered more in detail in the “things to know” section on the dvd – more about that later), there are no switching finger moves (as seen in previous dvds), no thimble moves, no false transfers needed (though they are taught, they definitely are not needed), there is an instant reset (the ring ends up on your finger

Now, I started off by watching the video montage – now I would have paid £5 just to watch that! It is entertainment people! You think you have seen cr@p in the past – well you ain’t seen s*** until you see this! Bloody Brilliant! Amazing! Spiffing! Wonderful! (it is rather good

Following this, I went straight into the “things to know” section. It explains “4 to kill” – the 4 things that make de’ring better than just about anything else you will own! It then progresses onto things like the perfect ring, safety, how not to hurt yourself e.t.c And also the basic move/s behind de’ring and how it works
After watching this nice, knowledgeable piece of television, I watched de’vo’s core routine. Amazing! Has to be seen to be believed! After showing you him performing it to different crowds, he does a mock performance for you people at home. Still looks great…I could watch him all day! He then goes on to teach how it is done. It is surprisingly easy! (well – not easy as such – but easier than you would think!) He goes through it step by step, including things like “move your hand slightly to the right as you move this finger” e.t.c e.t.c He is very thorough and you will understand everything.
After the core routine (which, if he had just released this, anybody would have been happy with) I progressed onto the “Utilities” section. It teaches a couple of extra moves, transfers e.t.c, to allow more to be done with de’ring. I began to watch the “beyond the core” section, which includes spins, waves, transfers, e.t.c, and is amazing!
Finally, I watched the bonus section, with the two bonuses. Now these two I love, and will definitely be getting a band ring just for these! It looks better than it sounds, and sounds better than it looks!
Overall
Overall, if you couldn’t tell by this hefty review, I like this dvd. It is as close to perfect as you can get – the teaching is top notch, the performances are bang on, the editing is wonderful, and even the music…ahhhhh yes…the music…
Now the music is amazing. While writing this review (which has taken me coming onto 49 minutes now…) I have had de’ring on in the background. There is no talking, and no silence, so it has de’vo’s music. Bloody Brilliant! I can safely say that I will definitely buy it on soundtrack when it comes out!
Overall, I would give this dvd a 9/10. It isn’t perfect, nothing is, but it is as damn close to perfect as you can ever be!
Thankyou De’vo Vom Schattenreich!
