There is a review here: ( ** WARNING SPOILERS!! ** ) http://www.hcms.org.uk/index.php/show-r ... nders.html

and yes it's almost exactly the same as last years, although I'd say it's slightly more polished (especially the table!)

The Garrick theatre run is looking pretty easy to book through ticketmaster..

I know David Berglas was hoping to head up to one night at the garrick, so you might spot two mentalists in there ;)

I saw Derren last year and the year before...we waited for him for what seemed like ages!!! Infact when Derren came outside to greet us it was nearly my birthday!! :D

His voice was fine when I saw him, so I guess he must be better :)

I've been thinking about it since then and the only possible way he could have known what he knew was that he saw inside the envelope. Was anyone else chosen for the Oracle? Did they write their card leaning on the stage at the front? If so then I know how it was done.

Did he know loads about you though that you hadn't written down?(ie day of your birth, family etc?). I found that bit mind blowing.

I completely missed out on the tour, due to a lack of funds  .
I can only hope he does another run in 2009.

but..

i don't like the philosophical idea of derren brown...the NLP presentation for give a giustification for the magical effect, i think is the magic killer, the magical effect survive to him, but if you give a psycological solution for them, is a little magic.
(is only my idea)

you'll find that he never once states that he uses NLP, people just interpret what he does as NLP

I think what he was getting at was that Derren Brown confesses to it all being trickery, misdirection and illusion and thus kills off the "magical" quality.

I personally, being a sceptic, prefer it this way. It's still incredibly impressive to watch in awe as he performs any one of his number of feats, and in a way, its like he's showing you a little more respect by not trying to convince you its magic, when we know its not.
Plus, Derren says that when the audience focuses harder on what you're doing, they're more likely to miss the trick of it, so by telling you outright that he's performing a trick, and not magic, you are perhaps more likely to pay attention and look for the trick part.

Although for performers who say it is magic, as part of the act, thats fine too. If everyone did it the same, it'd be a very boring world.

I like how he states at the start of shows (does he do it nowadays?) how it's a mixture of magic, suggestion, psychology, misdirection and showmanship. It sort of says that he uses magic and psychology, and leaves it to our imagination to work out how it's done

It was great how he made the declaration in the first series of Trick of the Mind, where all the background activity went by at a faster pace than he was moving, but his movements were kind of odd themselves. I didn't quite get it , but it looked good.

I wonder if that declaration includes things that are sometimes not real at all. There are a couple of things he does where it's just a little too much to believe, even by way of psychological manipulation and misdirection.

Cool. According to his own website, the new book is some of his drawings/paintings that he likes to do. They mentioned it a while ago.
The Specials DVDs are out in November.
Any news on a DVD release for Trick of the Mind Series 3?
