Modern Coin Magic

Postby mccabe24 » Dec 12th, '06, 23:18

The Book
This has to be the most complete and loaded book of sleight of hand coin magic on the market! 116 coin sleights and 236 coin tricks! This is the most value you can possibly get for your money! You will learn vanishes, concealments, sleaving, cuffing, putting coins in spectator's clothing, producing coins from a spec's clothing or out of thin air, coin transpositions and more!

Cost
$9.95 USD from www.penguinmagic.com

Difficulty
(1=easy to do, 2=No sleights, but not so easy, 3=Some sleights used,
4=Advanced sleights used, 5=Suitable for experienced magicians only)
The effects range from 3 to five, but as you progress though the book, you will develop and be able to execute thouse advanced sleights.

Review
The main reason why I wanted to learn coin magic is because people always have coins on them. This book is great because you will be able to pull of amazing effects without carrying anything around with you! By borrowing a coin, and having no time to set up before performing your astounding peice of magic, you will leave the spec with only one possible thought - you are the greatest magician on the face of the earth!!!!! Or they will tell you to get a job and stop trying to be Harry Potter Though I have not recieved a comment suggesting the latter, I have had many people tell me the former (though some of these people seemed to be stoned out of their minds and probably don't remember anything from the performance). My point is, this book has made me become a better magician than I ever thought I could be. The best part? I know I'll learn more from it because I've only had it for about a week and a half. I guarrantee that the first day of reading it will make you twice the coin manipulator that you were the day before! The best effect in this book has to be the Miser's Dream. It is a classic and J.B. Bobo includes 6 versions of it!

Overall
10/10

A very informative review. I also got into coin magic because they are objects people will always have on them. Many coin sleights can also be used with other everyday objects.

Definitely the first book to buy if you plan to do any serious coin magic. Great for begginners and experts alike.

It even contains chapters on routine for gimmicked coins (I won't reveal what gimmicked coins but I'm sure that if you think of one it will be there.

It is a great book, I mean eveything you need to know is in it, that's the downside: it's going to take me a year to get through :?

On a recent trip to London with work i popped into Davenports and picked up this book on the recomendation of several people here.

Very comprehensive and well written with tons of tricks. You just can't get this sort of value from a DVD and now I can practice my coin magic while on the train!

Pick this up, you will not disapointed

Thanks for the review, looks like I might be ordering this sometime soon. Coin magic is always impressive, and you're always set up to do a trick if people demand one on the spot.

You might wish to peruse the Bobo study guide, starting here.

I've always neglected coins and concentrated more on cards and psychic/mentalist stuff and knew a few sleights and whatnot.

I decided it's time to brush up and explore this area further and have ordered this book. SO much stuff to read and so much practicing to do...

Its great to see so much interest in a jam packed book on coin magic. If you can classic palm multiplycoins, at least 4 coins, then you might look up A Touch of Midas. Its a great way to produce coins. This is one I used to do before my accident and I can't tell you how much I miss being able to do it.I would rate the trick an absolute 10.
