Ive just ordered this from Alakazam and should be arriving on Monday. Is this the same effect Derren Brown used on one of his new series? He was doing a yes and no game with Steve Merchant I do believe.

Yes, its the same effect. Though not necessarily the same method.

I have just been delivered this effect from Alakazam, there was a bit of delay as it was sold out it is a very popular effect so ive been told. As I opened it up on my lunch break I read the firts few lines of the lovely litte booklet you get with it, anyway as I was reading the contents of what I received, everything was there but I tried to work out myself how it all works and I was baffled for 5 to 10 minutes trying to find out how this ingenious effect worked, those of you who own this probably think im stupid  After several agonizing minutes I gave up and decided to read how the working of the effect is and I must say I was shocked. Im very happy with the effect and will be practicing a routine tonight. The routines that come with it are not to my taste. Overall a lovely little packet effect.

I was having a chat with Moz today about my routines etc, and he pulled this beauty out of his wallet. A truly fantastic effect, mine's now on order! :D

It's been a few months now, so how is everyone getting on with this? I was thinking about getting the blank version so I'm not restricted to the yes/no thing; more versatile, I think. Plus it will be my own handwriting on the card, which is nice. (Not that I think this will make a huge difference to the presentation).

Sorry to bring up a dead topic, but mine are due tomorrow, according to the first class delivery that was dispatched today! Anyone have any tips/thoughts now its been out for a longish while?

Nothing too advanced and complicated appeals to me, I quite like the minimal Derren Brown approach.

There are lots of nice ideas supplied with the props.

Half the fun of a new magic acquisition for me is having a look at what I've got before I even touch the instructions.

I couldn't agree more. The amount of times someone in Davenports has demonstrated a trick to me, and although I know I'm not going to perform it or will it fit in with my routines even if I did, I've almost almost bought it just to know how it's done.

There have been occasions when I have been thoroughly dissapointed with the method behind a trick, but I guess that's why you don't expose the trick to anyone!

Never apologise for resurrecting a dormant thread! ;)

I'd be interested to know what you think about this and how you get on with it. Keep us/me posted.

When you do get it, Wild - be sure to check out Looch's presentation in the booklet. His routine is fantastic, and I've been using it quite often since first reading it. The other routines are very strong, but that particular one is a standout, for me.

Recieved it today and I'm really really impressed, not only with the routines and instruction, but in the gimmick itself. Pure genius!

I first saw this used by D. Brown on Tricks of the Mind and absolutely loved the way he performed it.

I've also read lots of positive reviews on multiple sites regarding Looch's routine but not many on the way Derren performed it. With this in mind I'm very eager to compare the two methods - seems I'm alone in thinking Derren's is great so I must be in for a treat when I read Looch's routine!

I think someone asked this before but it wasn't answered...

Can the cards be picked up by the spectator?

Using the Decisions it would be possible to perform a routine along the lines of the one DB did with Stephen Marchant. However, I'm as sure as I can be that this was not the method that Derren used (and I say this as an owner of Decisions and I've viewed the Marchant video recently on YouTube). I like Looch's routine and I liked Derren's too.

Can the cards be picked up by the spectator?

The simple, cover-your-backside-can't-be-contradicted answer is no. In reality, in the context of a routine, if you know what you're doing and can employ certain techniques then you can leave the spectator happy that they could pick up and examine the cards.

Interesting! I'll take some pleasure in being able to replicate a similar method using those provided with this effect. I'll have to think about the Derren effect a bit more, I don't believe it's psychological forcing/influencing it's still too much left to chance.
