Forum miscellany and trivia - do you...

1: Suffer log-outs?
2: Suffer sporadic response times via email when watching topics?
3: Find that the forum is sometimes inaccessible?

Just wondering - or is it the fact that I'm an Apple Macintosh user... we're persecuted for our exquisite taste in computers

I have the forum set as my home page, but I always have to refresh to see it when I first start up explorer. I also sometimes have trouble posting.

I had some error messages yesterday after submitting postings. They inferred that the postings couldn't be done but they were there OK!

I use 4 computers on a daily basis:

1 x Macintosh Laptop (6 months old, running Apple Safari browser and Outlook Express)

2 x Macintosh dual processor graphics workhorses, 5 months old, one at home, 1 at work, both on broadband, running software as above

1 x Brand new Athlon dual processor PC, running XP Pro at home, also on broadband, running the latest Internet Explorer and Outlook.

All of these computers suffer exactly the same problems with this forum, so I conclude that the problem is with the forum, not our machines or service providers.

Also, of late, email notifications have become so erratic that I've turned the option off...

Apart from that, happy as a pig in muck.

I haven't suffered any drop outs or lost connections at all, check with your SP's for any service outages that my be affecting you

Broadband Rocks

Already on BT Broadband, NTL Broadband and a 2Mbit pipe at work.

It's not SP problems - it's intermittent problems with the host IP of this forum, and/or dodgy and overburdened servers trying to serve ASP/PHP files and worry about sending XXX amount of users a notification email at the same time!!!

Suggestion: although it's a handy feature, if we turn off the email notification, the server would be less bogged etc.
(In my experience as web designer/programmer, this type of script can sometimes cause the server running the scripts to bottom out - unless the server is dedicated to the site)

Although, in the last few weeks, it's evened out, I think. The delays have gone, the temperamental log-outs are sorted, and the uptime is better.

I have received some error mesages recemtly, saying that posts have failed, but they actually turn up on the board. I know others have had the same, eg Boywonders five identical posts a few weeks ago.
