Mark is the worlds foremost expert on the svengali , if you search the forum for the deck you will see Marks post. His book "The long and the short of it" is considred the first and last word in svengali. The man is the King of svengali. And i am not just saying that the magic world concours.

The man is svengali mad.

Gurkha - all of the aspects of the Mirage deck you mentioned before CAN be achieved with a Svengali Deck.

You mentioned that the Mirage can "do a few more" - I've yet to see an effect with a mirage that can't be duplicated with a regular svengali deck - so please, enlighten me.

One problem I have with the mirage deck, is that it's not wise to allow a spectator to turn over the top card throughout a routine. It's a minor nuisance, I know - but from a psychological perspective, it could mean a great deal.

Dearie me, dearie me. There appear to be a lot of children here who are not well versed in the magical arts.

The sticky stuff I am referring to is roughing fluid. This interferes with the smooth handling of the deck and is a bloody nuisance. If the stuff wears off as this Gurkha personage admits then what is the point of having it there in the first place? If it is going to end up as a svengali deck in the end it shouldn't have been interfered with in the first place.

The rvoice 100 person is incorrect. You CAN ribbon spread a svengali deck! Of course you can! What is stopping you? If you do so face upwards they show all the same card and if you do so face down and turn them over domino fashion they will be all different. If you want to spread them face upwards and show them to be all different you use the Lambert Spread which of course none of you will even have heard about because your knowledge of the svengali deck is limited.

If you wish to force a card with the svengali deck I would urge you to eschew that silly move where you run them from hand to hand and utter that awful phrase "tell me when to stop". Instead ribbon SPREAD the cards face down even though rvoice tells you it is impossible. Ask the spectator to pick one. He can only pick the force card because they all fall in pairs. Or at least they will if you read my book.

No. The advantages of the Mirage are merely a mirage. Stick to the svengali deck.

when i say a few more, i am referring to he ease of handling,

I have never had any troubles with the RF on the mirage, and have only had my deck for about 7 months, using it at least 2 days a week, so i guess it hasnt much use(!) i was using the hyperthetical situation of the RF coming off, as I said, its lasted me months, and by no means has become worn down.

I am not a child in the sence of my age, however i have only seriously been practicing card illusions for about a year, so i guess in that sence, down to my experience, i am a child compaired to the collective centuries that you all seem to have. I was under the confused impression that this was a forum where we discus products such as these, evidently I am wrong, ill burn my mirage deck, learn how to fan a Svngali deck, and ill PM a Mod requesting that the Mirage Deck should never be mentioned again, or it will result in a ban... that should keep you happy until you realise that gimmick decks CAN and have been improved since you first picked up that Svengali deck all those years ago.

This Gurkha Personage very flamboient title, I think ill keep it, thankyou.

dont agrivate him, he's riffling his Svengali at us in anger already (hey, are they all the three of clubs?) You can tell by the way he's arching his deck, hissing at us, and callin us with the title of Person(age) after our screen names, very formal. anyway, leave him to have his opinion, dont forget, he's the King, Elvis, if you will, of the Svengali deck. when you get a title like THAT, it tends to give you tunnel vision to better products around you.

uh huh huh.

I remember buying a Svengali deck when I was about ten or twelve years old. It was actually marketed under the paul Daniels range. I loved it back then and thought it absolutely ingenious, but haven't given them much thought since. Might revisit it as another one of those props to dig me out of a hole if somebody insists on me doing a card trick (which I normally dislike doing).

Incidentally, does anyone know if you can get customised Svengali decks for use with established other reveals that require the force of a specific card? If I wanted a Svengali deck that favours the four of clubs, for example?

Pete
