As a designer, I've never been asked by a client if they can check my tools. And I'd say a ventriloquist wouldn't be asked to 'show me the dummy'.
But, unfortunately, in magic, our tools are under observation.
Spectator management keeps what's yours YOURS. Sure, they may suspect foul play, but even then, don't leave a situation open where the deck is up for scrutiny.
