The Effect
Marvins Magic Deluxe Pocket Tricks #1 – Do not confuse this with the Deluxe set produced for the companies centenary.

Various effects discussed in the main review.

Cost
under £5 GBP

Difficulty
(1=easy to do, 2=No sleights, but not so easy, 3=Some sleights used,
4=Advanced sleights used, 5=Suitable for experienced magicians only)

I’d say a definite 1, mainly gimmicked stuff here.

The phantom deck means you can take the cards as far as you like if you do your homework, I think that’s the long and short of it.

Review

This set has a number of props as follows:-
A phantom deck.

A prop that allows you to transform a large cube magically into smaller cubes before your specs eyes.

Mind reading effect (three differently coloured blocks, the spec hides two puts one in a bag and you’re able to tell them which was selected)

And an instruction booklet. There are the main effects discussed in clear easy to follow detail, there are other tricks/effects discussed in the book that can be done with the props which brings the total trick count up, some of these, as always, are described in many places/books and so unfortunately the widespread knowledge makes them easy for specs to give you a hard time!

The booklet was easy to follow, the kids I saw with this really were having fun with it.

Overall

Personally I think the sets are good for the money, they are better for sparking interest and / or an off-the-wall stocking filler type thing. They’d make a great gift for a youngster with an interest in magic.

As mentioned above these sets are aimed at younger people (i.e. 6-10 years). There are a couple of things that can be scaled up if desired, e.g. the phantom deck (however they are on company printed card stock as you’d expect i.e. not bikes/tallys). However, I’d suggest that for the money you’d be better off buying a phantom deck on the card stock of your choice, if this was your reason for purchase.

The quality is as you’d expect for the price, plastic / stickers / cheaper card.

If you bear in mind where the product is aimed in the market and the price I’d rate this as 6 out of 10.

Thanks.

There are the odd gems that appear in the marvins magic sets. The props are usually quite poor but for the price you can't really go wrong, I've got a few tricks I perform that I got the idea from a Marvins set and just made my own props.

Where I first got me a Svengali deck was good old marvin.

Marvins sets are good for cheap props to learn basic priciples of magic, My friend got a rather swanky looking tin a couple of months ago from Marvin and it had, Floating Match, Svengali a silk and a see through TT i kid ye not. But as I said he had the Basic Pricples behind. Dont think the demostrater liked it when I told him his classic p**m wasnt the best.

Anyhoot my 2 cents on it.

I am master of misdirection, look over there.

We are not falling out young Welshy, we are debating, I think farlsy is an idiot he thinks I am one. We are just talking about who is the bigger idiot.
