DERREN BROWN CARD TRICK ARGH!

Postby cardshark » Jan 31st, '07, 19:45

OK OK I have wanted to know this for half a year now... it is getting on my nerves so badly...

What is the trick called on episode 1 series 1 of Derren Brown mind control, where he asks Stephen Fry to think of a card and then Derren Ends up smoking it? It is the king of diamonds in the end.

What is this trick called?

OH and one more thing, is it a force that he makes him chose the KD or does he do it another way?

Alright, I'm being truthful here, I am looking for the method. But not for blabber to others, but for performance. I cannot deny that I am at the moment seeking the method, I know it is against rules. :?

It's alright to ask for the method so long as you are looking for a manuscript or video in which it is contained, not the method directly. Also, if you are aware that something is against the rules simply don't post it. It will be moved and you will feel the reprocussions.

However, if you are looking to purchase the effect, I believe it is in Derren's book Pure Effect, the effect itself titled Smoke. I think that there is a very similar effect, in which a spectator is asked to mentally select a card from a spread deck and the performer is able to name it, sold as the Mindpower Deck.

Hope this post helped.

What Harry said, plus this little bit: you may have trouble getting hold of Pure Effect as it's OOP now but you can find it on his DVD The Devil's Picturebook.

And you should know that if it's against the rules, you ain't gonna get it answered! But yes... ye have all the necessary info!

Thank you! Luckily I managed to get hold of a copy of it a little while ago, but I forgot that it was out of print now

I wasn't aware that Smoke was on The Devil's Picturebook though, so thanks for mentioning that as well!

If you have the DVD of the episode in question, keep watching it again and again. You'll notice a prop or two and maybe even the full method.

let's not step into reveal-o-land eh...

let's respect the pro's work as it stands...i know its tempting, but even so... :?

I have to say that I would find 'Smoke' a bit unrealistic for day-to-day performances, but I guess as the occasional 'Wow!' routine which is sometimes needed, it fits well.

Yes, Smoke might be a bit much, but the JKMP is a great tool.

Smoke

The Bagshawe principle achieves the same thing for smoke. I have an effect that uses a cheque book with a prediction in it. You spread the deck, the spectator selects a card from the deck, or thinks of one of them and then the envelope in the chequebook is opened to reveal that same card! You could also combine the deck with something like Gilligans Prediction, where the thought of card ends up in the little bottle.....
