Review

A very impressive book considering the price. I've got a few a Karl Fulves books and have always been very impressed with them and this one is no exception.

He gives a brilliant introduction to rope magic, covering knots, slip knots, various cut and restored techniques. As well as flourishes and lots more very useful information.

The only real negative that I've found is that some of the explainations are very hard to follow and the illustrations can be confusing at times. But once you get your head around what the book is trying to say the tricks are all very simple and on the most part very effective.

There are some real gems hidden away in this book, 'Here Spot' and 'The Victor Rope Trick' being two that are well worth the price of the book alone.

If you're looking for somewhere to get started in rope magic, you can do alot worse than this book.

Overall 9/10

I've had afew of Karl Fulves self working books and enjoyed them. I stayed away from the rope and paper ones though didnt really fancy them at the time. But i bought Fiber Optics afew months back and enjoyed that so i might give this a gander.

This is indeed a great book for learning the basics of rope magic - a form of magic that is overlooked by many.

It's not really an optical illusion - it just looks like one!

I particularly like his variations on the Hunter Knot and his explanation of the sliding knot routine.

Just bear in mind that there is no such thing as "self-working" rope magic!

I also have most of his books and strongly recommend them. Several of the effects in them caused a sharp intake of breath when I read the explanations - they are so devious.

I know it's a bit off topic, but in what sense are the tricks in this series of books "self working"?

I can understand the concept of a self working card trick or a self working maths tricks, but I wonder about s self working coin or rope trick.

Can someone with this series clarify the definition?

I'm basing my Opinions from a personnel perspective. The books i have by Karl Fulves require little or no sleight of hand. You just follow the steps and the handling does everything for you. Nothing to worry about basically. What you can do though if you prefer sleight of hand is take the basic aspect of the trick and add your own input. I started off with these books because there were no moves needed so no suspicion aroused with any fancy sleights, Just direct magic.

p.s i appologise in advance if i have not answered your question

As I suspected, the title can be read as "Coin tricks that don't require months of sleight practice"

well maybe self working isn't quite the right word. Most of the tricks are very simple, requiring no difficult sleights, switches, gimmicks or loads. I guess that's what he means by selfworking.

There's another review here where we all seem to agree - this book is a must buy.

It could be but then wouldnt you be upset when you found out it was ROPE tricks that didnt need months of practice.

I am master of misdirection, look over there.

We are not falling out young Welshy, we are debating, I think farlsy is an idiot he thinks I am one. We are just talking about who is the bigger idiot.
