Well I was taken a hold of by my C.U.P.S (I get what it is but have no idea what the acrynome stands for :s)

Some may call it a mini mini spending spree but, well seems like a lot to me :P

got myself the z9 M***** from emagic
Flux from NUMS
TT from emagic
101 tricks with a TT from emagic
and 10 very small 2x0.2mm m****** n50
Ive decided to attempt to fashion my own PK kit found a perfect lil' case just need to get a strap and work out some routines, As for TTs well ive only used them a few times before, its such a shock when no one notices the deformed T once vanished a silk only to have the TT come flying of as a presented my hands clean, luckly no one noticed :) Im hoping the book will provide some inspiration(at 2.95 you can't really go wrong). Like a thousand other "Magicians", in a thousand places, I wait for the post.

I think it stands for compulsive unnecessary purchase symdrome or something of that nature.

TTs are a necessary purchase though :D

CUPS is an absolute nightmare Sarconi and it won't stop!!. Since I introduced myself on here in November, I’ve bought, you ready for this, I actually can’t believe it myself:

Card College (complete)
Royal Road to card magic
Daryl’s Encyclopaedia of card Sleights (complete)
Five times Five: Japan
Dear Mr Fantasy
Art of Astonishment 1,2 and 3
The Devil’s Picture Book
Absolute Magic
Pure Effect
Mark Wilson’s Cyclopaedia of magic
Brick of Bicycle cards
An ID
Jerry O’Connell’s Billfold wallet (with no money to put in it!!)

The funniest thing? I still can’t run cards properly!!! But who cares, I’m having a great time!!

At least all of it will last and I think the items are worth every-penny.

Keep well

Martin

I was doing so well lately, I was just enjoying RRTCM then during the last few days I seem to have been grabbed by CUPS. Over the last few days I've bought

Covert
Still Fancy a Pot of Jam?
Million Dollar Switch
Not to mention all the essentials needed for cardies

Well to be honest I don't know if you would call them buys as CUPS as these DVD's are the complete dog's swingers.

Hopefully I shouldn't need to buy anymore material for a right wee while now. So in the mean time could everyone please stop giving rave reviews and telling me about any special offers. The last thing I want to do is get CUPS or let them get the hold of me.

Can anybody please help me? I'm having terrible problems controlling my streetmagic- I can't walk down a street without turning into a pub.

I know, this ease of Paypal and credit cards doesn't make it any easier for us CUPS patients....

Didn't want to make a new thread so I'll just bump this old one.

I'm on vacation from school (Uni of York, UK) back at home in Finland. CUPS struck bad and I decided to have all the things delivered to my university flat, not here so that 1. I don't have to carry it in the airplane, 2. I avoid extra shipping and 3. so my parents don't figure out exactly how much money I spend on this damn "hobby". So now I've been waiting for a month and still have a week to go before I can get to all the goodie goodies waiting for me, which include:

Born to Perform by Oz
In the Beginning There Were Coins by Jay Nobledaza (spelling?)
On The Pass DVD by Richard Kaufmann
Xpert by Neil Tobin
Gone DVD
Some more Bikes (blue backed FTW)

and I'm almost certain there is something else that I can't remember right now.

FWIW I don't consider this CUPS. I prefer the term NEMP (Necessary Expensive Magic Purchases) that Lord Freddie used in a recent thread.

I'm getting married next month and at Christmas I made a deal with my fiancee that I would not buy any magic supplies until after the wedding. I haven't even been allowed to put any tricks on the Gift List (Which I thought was unfair)

OK, I know its not CUPS, but i seem to be suffering from it more and more.

Today, i went to one of those huge stores, that sells everything from beds to bookends, sofas to sandwiches and toilets to tea-cosies. Most of which noone would ever use, but every time i saw something weird and strange, all I could think was:

"How could that be used in a trick?"

I ended up buying things that i thought - "might have some use in magic" - when really all that happened was i came back with a car full of useless c**p.

This wouldn't really count as CUPS, because the items were not magical (I do understand that CUPS is not restricted to magical items) but is there a name for the problem of seeing magical potential in useless piles of s**t?

If there is, where can I get some treatment for it?

All the best,
Croz

I too am very used to that idea of going into any kind of shop and seeing something perfectly useless but convincing myself that it will have a use in a magic trick. My wife is getting quite used to this phenomenon too!

There is something compulsive about it!

But I want to defend it because it encourages creativity - and that's got to be a good thing in the magic world. There are plenty of effects that would never have existed if people didn't think laterally with 'everyday' items.

Creativity is all well and good, but I have neither the time nor the patience to edit useless junk, so it will do some kind of magic that I know I will never use. And thus - back to CUPS.

All the best,
