Now then, I got this two books, I have read like 80% "Pure effect" but just read 10 pages from "Absolute magic". And from that, Iam really sure that it is Derren Brown own written text. The way both books are written reflects he personality from his tv-serie, the strict english to a arrogant/naughty. I know its Derren Brown becaus, I hade "Derren Brown" as a nicname in a chat program, and then I got a Instant message from a french guy. Apparently he is the French magic circle president. He linked me to his french magic website, he also gave me the secret password for to read about tricks etc... He asked if I was the real Derren Brown, due to the nicname I haved, becaus he said he is the one who translated the two books into french.
There you have it. Derren Brown is the author behind his two books.
-That is impossible!

-Impossible? No, it is magic.

True - Derren quite obviously wrote them himself - but I think that it was the first edition of Pure Effect that was more a collection of notes brought together.

What's the whole lark with this being our of print. I contacted the publisher and they don't have any but it seems to be everywhere.

I have to make the descision as to whether or not to buy Absolute Magic or 500 Methods of Card Forcing (limited 300 release)(whatever it's called).

What do I do? :)

Yes, I do mean that, but I only have 30 quid I can spend. Do I get that or AM?

In the long run you'll probably get more out of Absolute Magic but if you simply must know lots of ways to force then....

AM is true quality and written in a way that gets you thinking without being too dry, and entertaining at the same time. Don't expect to learn any methods and the 'model' he proposes may not be for you but it's a darn insightful read.

Any idea if there is anywhere on the planet I could still purchase either Absolute Magic or Pure Effect.

I've contacted 20 magic shops and the books are no longer in print and no stock anywhere... :( :( :(

Please, if you know a shop with them (I know I can't buy it second hand) please send me a personal message.

I'm having the same problem finding anywhere that is still selling either book (other than by getting into a bidding war on ebay). Any chance someone can point me in the direction of a commercial seller that still has them in stock?

I believe that Alakazam is currently stocking Absolute Magic, but you will have to search around for Pure Effect - I can't seem to find it available anywhere.

Pure Effect is now well and truly out of print at Derren's request so you'd need to check the second hand places, e-bay etc.

Bah, if only I'd known! I found a copy for £28.95 before Christmas and was thinking of ordering it for myself.

Not wishing to gloat but I managed to get both books recently. I am half way through Pure Effect and it is a terrific read.

Derren is a wonderful writer. He can manage to verge on arrogance and at the same time appear self-effacing. He writes with an open honesty that is very refreshing. You just find yourself understanding exactly where he is coming from. He shows what makes a difference from an observer’s perspective, as opposed to fixating on the mechanics. This is not new. We all know it is about the performance. However Derren, by the use of analogy and metaphore, just makes it so crystal clear.

You are left feeling that our profession/hobby/interest is a wonderful journey to travel along which has the power to brighten and enrich others’ lives as you go.

Truly inspirational stuff. Best book I've read on its subject matter.
