Ultimate Street Magic by Gary Sumpter

Price £10
Value for money 7/10
Worth the Practice 9/10
Power of effects 4/10

This book is very well edited and well photographed, but I think it would suit the younger, starters, rather than the more experienced close-up performers.

Some very good tricks, for example: Scorched
A selected card, is taken and the deck is shuffled, thet magician then takes a lighter and waves the flame under the deck. The chosen card is then named and removed from the deck to find a scorch mark and burned hole in it. That is the only one of their card in the deck. Both the deck, and lighter are examinable.

Some very good tricks, but some not so good.

Still, a reccomended buy.

All the best,
Croz

Ah, think I saw this in a shop once. It has a chap with a flowing, gothy type, black coat on the cover?
Flicking through it seemed more aimed at the layman/beginner, so I gave it a miss.

Yeah, I guess it was, it did have a few good tricks in, not to mention some very good handling tips.

All the best,

This book instantly struck me as a book targeted at the Blaine-ites!

hell yeah, very much so, but as I say, there were some very good pointers in it.

Mind you, nothing you can't learn from RRTCM

The book is ok and great for ideas, it also lends a visual reference. I'm very visual with my learning. I didn't purchase the book as its dime a dozen book. I love magic but am truly overwhelmed by that fact that there are literaly thousands of books covering the same materiel over and over again. I like Penn and Teller alot. There books just make for good comical reading and you get to see patter and effects explained and also injected with there raw sense of humour which make for very enjoyable reading. Some of the more dated but still classic magic manuals read like a tech manual for a stereo.

Hi Guys,

Just spotted this thread.

I would be the 'chap with a flowing, gothy type, black coat on the cover'

Please note that this book IS a BASIC book INTENDED for LAY people (an introduction to street magic).

Please don't expect anything overly new in the book. :)

Anyone that knows anything about magic will know it is intended for beginners just by flicking through :)

Take care!

Gary
