Blocking posts by certain people

Postby kitaristi0 » Apr 27th, '07, 14:44

Is there a way to block or ignore posts by certain posters, so that whenever he or she posts in a thread in place of the post it just says "you are currently ignoring this users posts"?

I'm not sure I understand the reasoning here - why would we need to do that?

It might save a lot of trouble in the log run, but I'm not sure it's possible in phpBB.

I know it's possible in Invision Board.
I'm not sure if it is possible in phpBB (maybe with a plugin module)

I'm still no wiser as to why we'd want to do this but FYI, the only way to actually block posts is by banning people or deleting their registrations completely and that's a bit extreme in most cases. We only do that for the eejits and trouble makers.
(Mandrake now casts his beady eyes over the assembled membership, looking for averted eyes, worried expressions and other body language signals but seeing nobody in those categories, thoughtfully chews a liquorice allsort then creeps off to his crypt for a quick crafty kip.)

Can anybody please help me? I'm having terrible problems controlling my streetmagic- I can't walk down a street without turning into a pub.

OK, maybe it's time to re-open the discussion about this. Things have changed since this was requested (April 27, but MAN have they changed). I'm sure that it is easier to see the pros about this request now. Personally, I was away for a couple of weeks, but when I got back I saw a big change in the forum - for worse. I have a hard time filtering out the threads/posts that might have something useful to say. Can we? Please...

I suspect that the original poster wasn't literally talking about 'Blocking' posts from specific users globally, but was referring to a common Forum Function, know as 'The Ignore Button'.

Basically, if a member is getting up your nose, you click a button on their posts, and - from there on in - you won't be able to see anything they write.

Again, though, whether this is a feasible function in phpBB, I'm sadly not certain

But...yes - it's something I'd value as an additional feature right now :D

Is it not possible just to ignore a post yourself? You see the name, you just don't read it.

Oh, absolutely....mind you, if the member in question posts huge amounts of comments on a daily basis, that does become kinda' tedious to sift through, and ignore, day-after-day.

Much easier just to not see them in the first place, which I think was the crux of the original post

It's so easy just clicking a button or whatever and never more see that huge amount of posts (until I allow myself to see them again of course).

I am not particularly fond of this sort of actions but IMHO it's necessary right now.
