As an aside, and very apt considering your avatar and sig, I just finished reading my first Lovecraft novella on the train this morning (At the Mountains of Madness). Very good it was too. 130 pages of steadily building suspense and tension, a masterclass in pacing and sinister foreshadowing. I'm hooked. Got the "Case of Charles Dexter Ward" up next... (Rubs hands with glee)

I was lucky to discover Lovecraft early on in life (and that's an apt sentence considering where we are  ) and it's probably superfluous to tell you I'm something of a fan. Despite all the racism, sexism, colonalism and several other isms as well as the purple prose that takes a while initially to digest mentally before you settle into the cadence, there is something in his writing, that is genuinely disturbing and long after you close the book make looking up into a starry sky just a little unsettling.

My mind just boggled. That's some contortion act.
