I got this from Penguin the other day on dvd. For $28 it is a really good deal. I found that the teaching was very good as well as the psychology behind it. I did find Gerry really irritating, though and often interrupting Banachek stupid comments - which didn't quite suit the whole thing. All round though i think it is very valuable to have..

I agree: good tape, widely considered to be the best on metal bending, and the comments by GM don't add much. But ignore the irritating sub-commentary: if you are interested in this subject you won't need anything other than this tape.

I watched this again last night, and although I've been using the routine for a while now I still picked up some more useful stuff. Excellent material. I'm looking forward to getting Banachek's new dvd series - especially the PK dvd.

I have PK Silverware and Psi Series 3. Both are very good.
PK Silverware teach you only fork's bend thus Psi Series teach you how to bend nails, coins, forks, ... More bend are explained in Psi Series but I still prefer PK Silverware who teach you the entire routine of Banachek (forks) and go deeper in psychology.

A review and a tip

Postby The Last Deck on the Left » Apr 6th, '05, 13:54

Hi there,

I have to agree with all that has been said regarding this DVD.
The 'bends' themselves are not that difficult to do - however, getting the misdirection is key to this routine, and this DVD has excellent ideas and tips.

Banachek's performance is excellent and highly polished. I've been repeatedly watchin the 'performance' section, and trying to see how the moves are incorporated into the act. Even when you know what he is doing, you can't help getting sucked into the misdirection, and missing what you were looking out for!

Excellent.

Here's my tip - Make sure you get the right forks to start with. I bought cheap ones from a pound shop initially, and became really disapointed as I couldn't make the bends at all. It turns out, the forks were just really good quality 'cheap' ones! A tip I read elsewhere on this site suggested ASDA, so I popped down there last night, and got a few packs of '4 for 89p' (and a strange look off the checkout girl!). They made such a difference! I was practicing until the small hours last night, and really getting into the routine.

My other new toy this week is a set of cups and balls. Can't wait to see the faces of the ASDA staff when I pop along at the weekend with a cup and test fitting lemons into it!!

Thanks!

Hi Last Deck - I ALWAYS check to go to the same person on the checkout when buying my forks - just to see their reaction to another six packs.

That's great :) Have you ever shown them what you do with them?

I haven't shown just yet as I'm keeping the suspense going. I have given a few hints but I think that she's not quite sure about believing me just yet.

One day when there's no queue I'll open up a pack and do something impromptu but that is probably a few more visits away at the moment.

The Manageress at the store that I get my forks from greets my by name and goes to the back to get the stock that she has kept one side for me. I love it. Makes me feel great. I think they will start offering me shares soon. :P

I know what I'd have done to Gerry if I had a fork in my hand and he kept interrupting with inane comments!

Anyhoo.
There's always a degree of doubt in my mind that the spectators will not be entirely impressed by me bending a frankly cheap and "pliable" fork, but to date (touch wood), the effects explained in this DVD have come up trumps.
My absolute favour is the twist as it is rounds off the series of more subtle bends that precede it. Even if the spec's are the most hardened cynics, there is no way they will be able to explain this one. It's beautiful.

To properly pull any of these effects off though you really need to pay attention to Banachek's guidance on misdirection and proper timing. These are key to turning this from a Uri Geller-esque party trick to a true miracle.

It's that age old addage.
Showmanship is everything.

Can anyone tell me of a supplier where I can get these maliable forks in Britain? Everywhere I seem to go have forks that can't be subtly bend.

I'm sure most supermarkets will have some.
I get mine from Tesco, Asda and Woolworths. Just look in the "Homeware" sections and seek out the cheapest ones available.

This way you can practice as much as you like without having to worry about cost each time you do the "break".

Wilkinsons. Or (and I keep saying this but no-one ever listens) your local hotel suppliers. Look in yellow pages. They supply hotels and pubs with glasses, cockery and cutlery. They'll stock very cheap and very "bendy" forks etc. They'll sell in them in boxes of 12 or 20 or similar and they'll be a lot less expensive than those bought in the high street.
