This 'n' That

Postby crozboz » Jun 4th, '07, 19:28

Three cards are shown. 2 that have the word "This" printed on it, and one with the word "That". A little find the lady routine is done, wherein all the cards turn to "this", and then all turn to "that", back to "this". And then when all three cards are shown, they read - "This", "That" and "Other"

$8.95 from www.pubtricks.com (about 4.50 pounds)

it will impress your friends, but requires quite a lot of practice.
Well, I needed a lot of practice.

This is, in my opinion, alot of work.

It has a few clever moments within it, and , certainly has a very powerful climax. But it is, I find, very confusing to do.

It would be possible however, to do as I did, and watch the video enough times to be able to figure it out. It did not, I am afraid to say, take long.

It is a trick that can be played in many ways. It can be done for small children, in bars to win a drink, in a comedy performance with the right patter (as can most tricks, I suppose).

Overall, I would give it 7/10.

Does this have the approval of the original creators?

If not, I say buy the original - Color Monte - and then make up your own set of these if you so wish.

Just a little.

I can delete it if too many people complain.

I agree, colour monte was better.

I mentioned the original - Color Monte - which as far as I can tell is the same handling as "This 'n' That" but produces a stunning effect. Many performers report how much their audiences love it, so the question is whether the creators not be given their dues for coming up with such a good effect?

If you think that an effect's worth is in its complexity then you're probably inclined to say no. But the truth is an effect's worth is in it's AFFECT upon the audience.

This 'n That is the same handling as colour monte. Colour monte is probably the effect that I got best reactions with and I definately recommend you purchasing it and just watch the reactions! I think it is best performed at quite a high speed, but that's just a personal prefrence (sp?)

I agree, but even at high speed, its a little repetitive.
