Hello, my first ever thread, so please be kind, but I thought you may like to know....

"Beginning on July 25, 2007, the US based Sci Fi Channel will show six one hour episodes of a series with the working title "The Derren Brown Project".

Andrew O'Connor and Michael Vine will serve as executive producers for Objective Productions.

Little is known about the content of the show, but journalists in New York at the press announcement were shown preview clips of Brown "manipulating human behavior" and given the promise of more surprises to come.

Sci Fi's own press release describes the show as an "original US produced version", seeming to leave open the question of whether the show will feature new or re-edited material."

Please now feel free to beat and humilate me. I'll be shuddering in the corner. :D

I've heard about this and personally I am very excited. I have never seen a complete Derren Brown television program. On a side note, it premiers on my 17th birthday!

Sounds really exciting. I love his shows.

I really liked it when he accurately counts the number of buttons on a tray when only looking for a couple of seconds - one of my personal favourites.

Update-

Beginning on July 26, 2007, the US based Sci Fi Channel will show six one hour episodes of a series titled Mind Control with Derren Brown. Andrew O'Connor and Michael Vine will serve as executive producers for Objective Productions. Journalists in New York at the press announcement were shown preview clips of Brown "manipulating human behavior" and given the promise of more surprises to come. Sci Fi's press release describes the show as an "original US produced version", and early previews show a mix of new segments and older clips shown in earlier UK TV shows. The current first showing release schedule is listed as:

Episode 1 "Shopping Mall" July 26 at 10 PM EST - In the largest mall in New York State, Derren turns over 300 befuddled shoppers into his puppets by using seemingly innocuous shopping announcements made over the public address system. Also, Derren decides to go shopping himself...but he's forgotten to bring any money.
Episode 2 "Lying Car Salesman" August 2 at 10 PM EST
Episode 3 "Exotic Dancers" August 9 at 10 PM EST
Episode 4 "Assault Course" August 16 at 10 PM EST
Episode 5 "Dreamscape" August 23 at 10 PM EST
Episode 6 "Disappearing Sun" August 30 at 10 PM EST

Pre-production has begun on Derren's all new 2008 series for the UK.

Does any of this sound familiar? Superbly done, but with a distinct air of deja vu?

These are all tried and tested Derren Brown presentations, he's done the car salesman thing in he UK and the US with the same results. Enjoy the series for what it is and Search here on TM for the previous intensive discussions - have fun!

I watched the first episode last night. It is a mixture of stuff culled directly from his UK shows, some new stuff filmed in the US (though I believe some/most of this was used in his last UK series?) and a combination of the two, eg the famous 'advertising men' sequence was re-created in New York with different images.

Highly enjoyable.

I had been partly been looking forward to seeing if Brown would dramatically alter his performance persona or style for an American audience, and would say he didn't.

I watched Mind Control with Derren Brown last night and I have only one word. Amazing! I've heard of him, but never really seen his material. I understand he's had a show in the UK for awhile. I'm glad SciFi picked it up as I'll be watching every week. He has to be the closest to using real magic because all the "tricks" are right in front of your face yet people still do exactly what he wants them to.

I suppose if it's a new audience, why not use the same material and pad it out?

If anyone has the chance to see him live, it's certainly a good night. Excellently presented down to the last detail.

Certainly has a knack for taking known routines and transforming them as I'm sure he does in the series.

I saw the second episode yesterday and have to say it was just really fantastic

Hes a great mentalist. I love mentalism but now I might get into it. It seems like I might be a derren brown wannabe...

No doubt hes a great mentalist/hypnotist/magician, with his celebrity work though, a lot of work goes without the cameras rolling. To "put people to sleep" usually requires hypnotism and suggestion and not the instant state he is often seems to aquire. Not saying it is fake, but the editing is very cleverly done!

..I disagree - having seen him live, he has the 'rapid handshake' induction down to a tee!

The volunteers really do 'sleep' on command with NO prep whatsoever..

I'll tell you what - its a show my Mum (who believes in psychics) won't forget in a hurry.. she left the theatre well and truly spooked!

yeah I have to agree he can make people "go under" in 5 seconds flat! I've seen him live often enough to know!

amazing stuff, never seen the american version of the series though I must say!
