Naked Mentalism: Stripped of Method
by Jon Thompson

£29.99 at stores.lulu.com/booksbytomo

This new book on mentalism has received a lot of pre-release publicity and now it is officially available!

Written by Jon Thompson (aka Tomo) author of Poker Faced (a staple effect in my walk around work) and The Stripper Deck (you never knew the humble Stripper Deck could do all that), Naked Mentalism brings you the science behind many popular pyschological forces, effectively taking Psychological Subtleties to another level.

Tomo takes you through the way the human mind 'freely associates' different thougts in ways that we as mentalists can 'prime' for maximum impact.

The Naked philosophy is one that is dedicated to producing inexplicable mental feats with no appraent method. Tomo provides an expanded set of things that can be 'forced' in ways that make you look like a genuine mind reader. Once sccussfully internalised, these thougths, words, and ideas will become second nature. Moreover, you will be able to walk into a performance sittuation with new found confidence knowing the odds that lie behind the forces.

The most powerful section of the book is the Naked Book Test, which is an anytime, anywhere book test. You can literally walk up to someone in the park reading a book, ask them to select a word, and get the word correct!

The principles in the book will take study. Apart from some of the more common forces, this is not material that can be performed immediately. Careful study and practice is required to benefit from the powerful ideas contained within this book.

If you like Banachek, Knepper, Harling and Nyrup, et al., then this book is certainly for you!

10/10 all the way!

I was very impressed with this. The whole book is packed full of information that could be used in lots and lots of different situations.

Tomo does a briliant job of not only explaining the hows but also the whys. And those whys can form a nice base to allow you to alter or develop your own ideas based on the prinicples in the book.

The Naked Book Test is an absolute gem, it will take time to master but when you've got it, it's totally hands off. It could be done over the phone without you ever even seeing the book in question.

11 out of 10 from me Very Happy

Darn! Still a month or two before I can afford to buy it... Sad

I can get by by telling myself the wait will make it seem twice as good...

Really, I look forward to reading it. How exactly would it compare to Psychological Subtleties 1&2? I only have two at the moment, but I think others here can appreciate information regarding the first PS.

30 quid, I'm waiting for the PDF in ebay Smile

Really though. I'm going to have to wait a long time before getting any of that level of mentalism.

I hope you think it is too.

People have been going crazy for it so far, even at the Caff. It hit number 12 on the Lulu sales chart last week. Most of the past couple of weeks have been spent answering emails and PMs from excited owners telling me that it works and telling me about interesting uses they've put it all to. It's not a book of say-this-and-they-do-that scripts but something to take on board and learn, and luckily the owners so far have realised that. It's all bound up in the use of dedicated models to achieve results far in excess of what a psychic can using their own general model of the world. That's why Malchat said it's essentially the 'real deal'.

There's definitely going to be a supplement later this year (heaven help me!) with new models to slot into your growing "psychic" ability and lots of ideas for using both them and the ones in volume 1.

It's rare that I read/watch something and think "I can see myself using that!" and even rarer that I still feel that way after having purchased the trick/book/DVD
This, is one of those occasions! although technically I didn't actually purchase it... expect the signed copy of the book on eBay in the next few months Wink (nah, this is one of those books that'll stay near the top of the pile)
Given my background it's the kind of thinking that really appeals to me. although I did question a couple of minor points (but I'm possibly wrong myself anyway Edit: yep, turns out i was wrong, had misunderstoof something).
One major dislike of the book: I was supposed to be unpacking today, I didn't get it done because of Naked Mentalism. Gah!

Are there necessary prerequisites to this book?

I'm looking to take my mentalism learning to the next stage but I'm torn between this and Sleight of Mind. Could someone who had both books do a quick comparison and tell me the strenghts and weaknesses of each? Is Sleight of Mind more Hypnosis based? Thanks.

They are complementary but different. With Naked Mentalism you will have a set of principles and facts to go out and perform effects with a bit if study and contemplation. With SOM you will have additional tools to understand your participants and some really good exercises to explore the power of the subconscious mind. I do not think it is an 'either or' judgement, but a 'both and'...

I have to say that I have been patiently waiting for this book to be released for a very long time now, and am so looking forward receiving my copy at 777.

I can see it becoming a staple of mentalism in years to come. Tomo should be very proud of himeself. I now look forward to all his future projects.
