Love to hear a review on

THE OSTERLIND BLINDFOLD

and SILVER SHIFTER

I know there have been a few posts in the past on Silver shifter but there seemed a little conflict in the views and none of them really gave a thorough review.

Ok since no one seems able to review the Osterlind blindfold can anyone review any similar blindfold? Esp if it's half the price and twice as good.

I was thinking possibly of this one.

Blindfolds...

In all honesty, the only blindfolds I've ever worn are genuine ones. Most mental magic that kind of works itself can be performed with a genuine blindfold, it's just there to add drama.
A good source of information on blindfolds is the 13 Steps to Mentalism book by Corinda. (Actually, it's the only reference on blindfolds that I have!!!).

My nicest blindfold is an elastic strapped one bought from Manchester airport - I think it's to help you sleep by blocking out light.

It looks quite genuine, and it's 'moulded' to a kind of eye-socket and nose design.

Peeking/x-ray blindfolds are a different subject, to which I can offer no advice, I'm afraid.

Sorry, not for me at all. The handling looks slightly tacky, and I've been informed that the 'gimmick' is very delicate.

OK, it's visually impressive - but from the technical point of view, it's one of those tricks that probably won't be able to avoid sitting at the back of the drawer after a while - after I've been reliably informed that it does NOT live up to many of the claims made by the manufacturer.

However, I also await a thorough review - which will undoubtedly prove me wrong!!!

Seige, thank you for responding to this request, even though it's not something that your able to really give a review of. I had begun to think that this was an invisable thread

It seems to me a blindfold could have many great uses, so I'm not sure why it appears to be so under used.

The initial trick I had in mind was after doing a blindfold cut ( ie where you cut the cards under a large cloth to keep it hidden from yourself and the spectator ) Yet still can tell them the card they cut to.

Then suggesting you do another blindfold cut but this time your going to let them see how you do it, by only yourself being blindfolded.

I thought this could be quite powerful and would just be one of many way's the blindfold could be used.

What do other people think?

You really ought to read the Corinda book...

There's a lot of insight into using blindfolds, and your idea is on those lines... i.e. you can use the blindfold to throw people off the scent - and perceptibly perform the same trick twice, but with two 'plots'. Very nice.

There are also 'peeking' methods, some even quite elaborate - involving mirrors, manufactured blindfolds etc.
