It's on the Trilogy and luckily it's on the disc where they bother to explain things.
I think simple touches such as how much pressure is applied to the cards and handling is essential when learning new stuff which is why books (good ones) win out over DVD's every time. Try to work out what's going on in 'The Pirouette' on this DVD???!!!!
He does it fast, then he does it slow. The camera angles aren't too great and it's done in silence which means what's going on isn't in anyway explained. Disc one is really the only worthwhile disc in this set.
It's hard enough learning complex flourishes anyway with out having to try and work out what's going in first. I thought the point of tuition DVD's was to teach?????????????

Multiple angles. Slow motion. Repetition. All pointless if there is no explanation and everything is performed in silence. I would love to know the reasoning behind this; people buy these DVDs for the tuition and to learn. If I wanted to be entertained by a silent performer, I would have purchased The Best of Marcel Marceau.

I understand the Bucks have books out which means that the DVD is an example for those that have read the books, therefore you will have to shell out for the books to properly get the grasp of most of this. I bet the material is staggered through several volumes too...
When they do condescend themselves to actually speak and teach the material, the explantions are clear and well taught, so why on earth did they not bother to keep it up throughout the whole set?

Apparently on an old DVD they tried teaching the XCM shizzle normally (Ie. by speaking) but they kept getting in a muddle and stuttering throughout, which made it harder to learn.

It's not that I don't like all silent teaching, David Stone did a very good job of it. But, he did it for a very good reason where as the Bucks did it out of laziness.

Oh and Jjtee. Both the Tivo's do look incredible, but the Tivo2 is very very hard. I kind of feel that you're putting in a lot of effort for what is essentially a "quick trick". But I don't know, I'll probably put some hard practice into them both in the future. I'm a sucker for Transpo :D

Yes, the first Tivo is very impressive and is worth the effort. It's something I'm practicing at the moment. There is no dispute that the material on this set is superb and of the highest quality and will certainly take anyone who has mastered the basics into the next level, but the teaching style leaves a lot to be desired. People accused Dave Forrest's performances of being dull, but the spectator-less performances here are much more coma inducing. Dave is great, but these fellas, although highly skilled, speak in a dull monotone, when they can be bothered to speak, the same dull monotone copied by many youtube magicians.
Now someone like Dave Forrest teaching this stuff, that'd be wonderful as he covers everything needed to perform his effects and you are left without any doubt as to what's going on.
Some of the stuff on here, especially the more convuluted flourishes, could have done with someone telling you how to hold the cards and how much pressure to apply as these kind of things, athough seemingly small, can be vital components when you are grasping something new.

I think I will get a lot from this set, particularly the tricks disc, but some of it will have to be scrutinsed and experimented with before you can fully nail it which shouldn't be necessary on a tuitional DVD. (Which is very expensive)
There's even references to their Molecule cut, which is not taught on this DVD but some effects on the third disc use it. So you'll have to buy their other DVD 'The System' to be able to get the grasp of it. Then you'll probably have to buy the book as the silent teaching isn't clear.

These DVD's are perfect for deaf magicians. (If there are any)

hey guys, just a quick question regarding this DVD set - does anyone know the name of the deck they use? (not the tally ho's...the others, I heard somewhere that they can fetch anywhere from 10 to 50 quid :S)

Dan

*never mind, found them - Jerrys Nuggets cards, and omg, they really are THAT rare :S*

I don't really like flourishes (unfortunately im one of those boring gits that would prefer the spectator to not see anything), however a few of the effects sound like they would fit into my routines.
Is it imperative that you perform flourishes to get anything out of this DVD?

Not particularly.

Bearing in mind I'm still useless at card handling (relatively...), after watching the first DVD, it seems like it's all entirely possible to do, but hard. There's one or two bits that are slightly flourish-y, but you get walked through those bits.
The second DVD is completely about flourishes. I watched it once and haven't taken it out of the box since... Some of the bits on the 3rd DVD consist of non-flourishy stuff, but at least the Flourishing 101 gives me hope that I might watch DVD 2 again...

I should have taken the time to read this review before purchasing this dvd set.

Don't get me wrong, it's brilliant, but not the kind of thing I want to do with a pack of cards.
I've watched it once , & well, the moves are incredible, but a little beyond me.

So if anyone is interested in this dvd.
I would be willing to swap it for a jar of pickled onions.

Just PM me.....(Hows that M  )
