I would recommend getting a cheap pack of rider waites though. You can probably pick them up for a few quid on amazon. They have the advantage of being very popular (so most books will use them as their pack) and the minor arcana have nice pictures of them which really will help you to expand your readings into another league beyond a more number + suit based system. Plus the punters love 'em which is important!

Yeah, I will probably get the Universal Waite Tarot deck once I've read Black Hart's book and become more confident. Incidentally, the deck that is included with TME is a very nice one (Marseilles deck), but I feel that perhaps the French words will slow the learning process for a beginner due to having the added task of mentally translating some of the cards. Granted, the illustration on some of the cards makes it obvious what card it is (as does the French name in some cases), but a few of them are not so obvious. However, this is a minor quibble and TME is excellent.

The Universal Waite is THE deck to begin with.. I can only assume that Mr Hart's book is superb because I would consider decks such as The Marseille and the Swiss IJJ very hard decks to begin with as there is no inspired imagery with the Minor Arcana.

So if Keith can get people going with the Marseilles then methinks it must be a powerful system. I'd get it myself but as I'm on a limited CUPS budget I go for things "away" from Tarot, these days.

The Universal Waite deck is packed full of imagery and there is loads of reference material out there for it, as Mr Wand says.

By the way, I've also ordered Tarot: Plain and Simple, so thanks for the recommendation, guys.

(Everytime I log in here, I end up spending money! Coincidence or something more mysterious...?)

I've only just gone and ordered this as well.

Just when I thought I had my CUPS spending under control, tarot crept up behind me when I was unguarded.

Replicant you are making me feel a bit better though, at least I'm not the only one
:D

Can anybody please help me? I'm having terrible problems controlling my streetmagic- I can't walk down a street without turning into a pub.

I've been searching around and came across a website that has loads of useful info regarding the Tarot, including numerous deck and book reviews, not to mention a forum.

It's a good site and, having read through Keith's book, it made far more sense to me than it did before. An excellent resource but, of course, you all knew that..... :?

Been on there from some time now. Very good deck reviews and great leads for more information. I might have recommended this as part of the debate on Kate's query regarding Tarot.

Well, after four months of study and practice, I've done a few readings and my confidence is going up. TME is definitely a case of quality over quantity; what The Black Hart has put across in a small booklet containing a few pages, others have failed to do in whole books. I am now in a position to expand on my interpretations of the cards as TME has provided me with a solid foundation. Well worth the money and I would highly recommend this to beginners. 10 out of 10.

Does anyone have any comments on Keith's Runes With A View? I'm looking at ordering something on the Runes on Friday.

I have been practising on and off with the Tarot for the last year now, and last night, I entered my services as a reader at a local charity auction for practise, and made £80 for charity, auctioning a voucher for 2 30 min readings. B***er, I might have to take it seriously now!

I don't know anything about Runes or Keith's Rune course, but if it's anything like his Tarot course, then it will be excellent for beginners. And don't forget Keith's guarantee - if you don't like it you can get a refund. Win, win. :D

just to bump this thread iv'e just purchased the readers kit because i wanted the rune dice and needed a refresher on the tarot.
I'm also considering the mark major arcana for my psychic evenings as I have in the past done readings using the major arcana and rune stones tougether with great results as i mentioned before one of my rune sets is coin based for okito and cop /silv routines.
what do people think. :?:

Keiths marked Tarot deck is superb. The reading is very easy to do and difficult to see for the spectator. I have recently started using a Fournier marked deck in my magic routines, if you have used one you will find the Telltale Tarot even easier

tarot reading

Postby abecedarianmind » Jan 23rd, '09, 17:02

interesting thread.

i am sure there are many people who can give good readings.

however, i've never read a good description by a magician of how to learn to do it....

no one has yet described the system well enough.

so, what basically happens is that readers personal perspectives shape the reading.

most people who have something to say about the subject are like pub football critics - they've never done the job and are just letting out air

interesting, there is a real confusion about the ethics of doing readings as well, which ends up as personal beliefs not ethics in the truest sense

saying all that, black hart products are top class, and he knows to steer you in the right direction

so, my post isnt a criticism of his great work
