Postby BaryBazz » Nov 2nd, '07, 11:10

I would like to buy a close-up case and have been on the net and seen a few from American dealers.Does anyone have some experience of these and can make a suggestion.
Thanks,

I know some people use tool boxes and laptop cases. I've got a nice pink makeup case that I've adapted, about a quarter of the price of a closeup case and works just as well for me.

To echo what Lady of Mystery says...

As far as I can tell close up cases are tool cases with little or no modification. I would suggest you buy from your local DIY store as when sold as a tool case they ARE that much cheaper...

I'll third that

I use a medium sized fishing tackle box. You have a big well at the bottom along with a few racks that fold out for keeping the smaller items in (TT's, coins).
However I do use this soley for organising my stuff at home and rarely, if ever take this to gigs.
Thes days I take a small clear box about 6 inches square (I got it with Bill Abbotts 'The Thing') to gigs with me as generally with walk around if it doesn't fit in you pockets you aint gonna use it.
I'm not sure how much stuff other people take but a box that size lets me take 2/3 decks (one being a gimmicked one), a packet trick or two, flash paper, 4 half dollars, rope, TT, Spongeballs and a few other items is more than big enough.
My ninja rings and forks dont fit but I plonk it all in a bag anyway.

I've found a gun case works best. I personally like the hard silver looking ones. They have what at first appears to be a brick of foam that fills the entire case. However on closer inspection the foam is actually split into a zillion rectangles standing on end you pull these out individually to create pockets for you gun and parts. Equally well to put your magic stuff in. Often you can also find these at camera shops as they are wonderful for photographic equipment. Also can be found at close out stores, here in the States there is Ollies, Price club, etc which are large outlet shops. And in the end I end up spending untold amount of hours setting things up just the way I like it. Even have a second identical to the first just in case I need to do a second show and don't have time to re-load or have equipment problems. And then life being what it is I usually end up leaving the case at home. Shove a deck of cards, four coins and some sponge balls in my pocket and head out.
